An interesting question came up in my game tonight. One of my players has a small earth elemental familiar (due to the Improved Familiar Feat in the DMG). Our question is how far does an earth elemental see while using its earth glide ability. It has no blindsense, but it does have darkvision, can it see through the solid stone, can it only see when near the surface? What sort of range would it have in either case?

If anyone has an opinion on this or has made such a ruling please let me know. Thank you

Yeah, I thought it was pretty dumb that creature who spend most of their life in lightlessness have only dark vision.

I suggest that while in their element giving them tremorsense at the same range as their darkvision.

you could always give some special kind of sight like in "the core" it sees different dencities in the rock. now that i think about it tremorsence is better in the long run.
