| Sergikins01-02-06, 09:21 PM | Hey all. Next session, I'm throwing this monster at my PCs. They will be on an airship, and I need to know if the CR for this thing is too high/low. I made this monster when I was bored at my grandmothers, so forgive me if the formats are off. Elemental Devourer Description: This lumbering hulk is actually quite agile for it's size, moving through the air with ease. It has one huge twisted horn extending from underneath him. Twelve tentacles hang, seeming useless from underneath a shell composed of huge, blue tinged iridensecent scales. A meanacing tail with a mouth on the end extends from the back, and is nearly 20 feet long Large Abberation (Cold)* CR4 HD: 6d8+36 (hp65) Inititive +7 BAB +3** Speed: 30 fly (average) AC: 17 Flt: 14 Tch:12 Attack: Gore +4(1d8+1) or Tail +5(1d8+1) Full Attack: Gore +4(1d8+1 and Tail +0(1d8+1)*** Special Attacks: Energy Ray, Elemental bolt, Summon Spawn 3/day, Drain Elements Special Qualities: REsistance cold 20, Electricity 10, Acid 10, Fire Sensistivity, Blind Sense, Scent (Elementals only), Darkvision 60, Lowlight vision 120, Two minds SVs: Fort +8 Ref +8 Will +5 Feats: Weapon Focus (tail), Lightning Reflexs, Improved Inititive Energy Ray: as a standard action, the tail of the elemental devourer may shoot a ray with a range of 30 feet that deals 1d6+4 damage. The damage is charisma based Elemental Bolt: Everytime the Elemental devourer deals damage to any elemental or elemetal object, the elemental devourer gains one charge. When it has three charges, the elemental devourer may shoot three magic missles, as cast by a first level caster at any target withen range as a full round action. These chages dissapear in a hour Drain Elements: The Elemental devourer gains a +2 on attack and damage rolls vs elementals and may ignore 5 points of hardness Summon Spawn: The Elemental devourer may summon Spawn. As a full round action, he may realse all three spawn, but suffers a -2 AC. A scale flys off the devourer and lands on a solid surface. It grows legs, and a horn. This is equivlant to summon moster I. Devourer Spawn (small abberation) HD 2d8 + 4 (12 hp) Init +6 BAB +1 Speed 20ft AC 15 Attack + 3 Bite(1d4+2) Full attack +3 Bite(1d4+2) SA: Energy Ray +3 (1d6-1 SQ: Fire Sensistivity SV: Fort +1, Ref +3, Will +1 NOTE: The reason many of the attacks are based off of elements is becuase the airships are powered by elemental rings of power. These rings count as elementals. |
| ubernex01-02-06, 10:44 PM | *I thought Abberation might be a better choice. which is better? Tentacles and really bizarro-stuff says abberation to me. With a magical beast I should at least be able to identify where the body parts or the base creature came from. Plus abberation fits your d8 hit dice, Magical Beasts get d10's. I'ld be happy to help look this thing over, but it's lacking a couple of critical things. It should really have an ability array, I can take a guess at what some of them are, the Hit Points seem to indicatea +6 con bonus, and the damage seems to say strength is a +1, but having the attributes of the critter would help. For the full attack, secondary natural attacks are made at -5, so the tail strike looks off. Unless that is what the "Two Minds" ability does for it. |
| Sergikins01-03-06, 10:45 AM | Ok, sorry i missed something. Two minds: The elemental devourer has two parts, the mind and the tail. The Tail can take one standard action a turn. The Mind (main part of the beast) can take a double move action, release spawn or use Elemental bolt. Abilities are 12 Str, 22 Con, 17 Dex, 2 Int, 16 Wis, 18 Cha The two minds ability is so it can pursue airships, which move at about 100 feet a round. Therefore, It's real movement is about 20 feet going with the airship, 60 feet moving in the other direction. I plan to have harpoons for the PCs at the ready, so the melee fighters will have a chance. I also didn't mention space/reach. 10x10, with a 15 foot reach. gtg |
| Sergikins01-04-06, 09:10 PM | Is the CR about right though? I'm thinking a CR of four. I'm also posting another beastie tonight. the Nessian hell beast. please check that too. |
