| Shoony Blackforest01-10-04, 02:49 AM | bear in mind that ur are dealin wit someone of low IQ and no books (me) before i get to the specifics, im askin these questions cause im plan on playin a "bonded summoner" (he can turn into a elemental that he chose as his familiar [class feature] once he reaches 10th level) AIR: if the air elemental wanted to, could he pick up someone say an unconscious fighter, in his whirlwind and carry said fighter to the top of his whirlwind setting him on top a cliff or buildin WITHOUT doin damage. (the whirlwind can looks like a tornado.) how do u do damage to an air elemental. doesnt it just become wind before somethin like an arrow or axe can hit it. can a air elemental become gaseous to slip through the keyhole of a door. (the Mummy) can an air elemental make a wind to sort of levitate u. EARTH: can the "dirt" around an earth elemental's arms kinda fade away to form a spear for pearcing damage instead of bludgeoning. can an earth elemental rip off his arm to turn it to a javelin and throw so he can later grow it back. TWO LAST QUESTIONS: as a BS (bear with me) levels, his elemental familiar gets bigger ending up as an elder. at 10th level when he can become a elemental, can he MERGE wit his familiar to become a BIGGER, NOT STRONGER elemental so that he has larger AoE. is there such thing as an ICE ELEMENTAL, or maybe some other "hybrid" elemental. remember..... low IQ no book thanks ahead of time. -Shoony Blackforest |

| Primus, the One and Prime01-10-04, 03:28 AM | Air: -No, the damage is from being buffeted by whirlwind winds. -An air elemental is quasi-solid. It is a being mad eup of elemental air energy, it is not incorporeal so things do not pass through it. It is still one cohesive being with flesh, though that flesh is made of solidified air. -Air elementals cannot become completely gaseous so no. -No. If it is strong enough then it can possibley pick you up and fly WITH you, but it has no levitation powers. EARTH: -No. Earth elementals don't have that precise of control over the shapes of their limbs. (Talk to your DM he might allow it) -Definitely not. TWO LAST QUESTIONS -No. I don't think you're allowed to merge with your elemental familiar anyways. -Yes, though they aren't int he core books. Ice, Ooze, Magma, and Smoke elementals are all noted in the Manual of the Planes book. If you have a DM who used to play in 2e he might also remember these elementals: Para(Mix of Two Elements) Ooze Magma ice Smoke ---- Quasi (Mix of Element and Positive or Negative Energies) Lightning Radiance Steam Ash Salt Dust Vacuum |
| Shoony Blackforest01-11-04, 01:48 AM | wishful thinkin on my part. but thanks a lot. but since u said..... -An air elemental is quasi-solid. It is still one cohesive being with flesh, though that flesh is made of solidified air. i was wonderin..... when they hit HUGE size and all. could they carry u..... thanks again for the reply's. if i could i'd pay u. buuuuutt i can't soooo thanks again. -Shoony Blackforest |
| Primus, the One and Prime01-11-04, 02:01 AM | Alright, assuming a human Mage (Unloaded more than 30 or 40 pounds let's assume a weight of 200lbs for reference (You may adjust up and down). A creature can only fly when it has a light weight load. A Medium creature needs a Str - 23 to lift a 200lb object and still be Light. A large creature needs a Str - 18 to lift a 200lb object and still be Light. A Huge creature needs a Str - 13 to lift a 200lb object and still be Light. This means that once your Elemental hits Huge size it can carry a 200lb. object and still be able to fly. In fact, a Huge Elemental can carry up to 400lb and fly. |
| Shoony Blackforest01-11-04, 02:10 AM | that means im gonna be able to carry both my party's tanks once i hit 15th level. muahhahahha. sorry.... thinkin aloud. but thanks again x5 i think is appropriate. too bad i cant pay u..... u'd be considerably richer.... oh well thanks again -Shoony Blackforest |

I'm not sure we should be applying the encumberance rules ... it specifically says that the amount that the elmental can carry is limited by its volume. That rule would be completely unnecessary if weight came into play as the weight of creatures would fill up an air elemental's encumberance capacity far faster than it would fill up the volume capacity of an elemental in whirlwind form. |
