| Mindwin09-25-06, 06:01 PM | The fiendish gelatinous cube monk 10 is bugged, and full of errors. Designer Robert Wiese advanced it to huge because of class levels, and in RAW, class levels does not modify size. I spent some time, and redid the gelatinous cube, making it a VERY tough CR 12 opponent. I kept the huge size. to make it correct, add another 4 levels of ooze, and 6 levels of monk, making it huge and a CR 17 enemy. original article is here http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/eo/20060922a The critter is below. Its CR is 3 for base cube, +2 for 8 ooze HD, +5 for 10 monk levels (non associated), +2 for the fiendish template. It might be a tough CR 12 opponent, but the cube in the article is ridiculous. it would not last 2 rounds vs a 12th lv party. this one will chew(chew??) down any opponent it melees. but at lv 12, if one does not evade a dumb landlubber, it deserves to take a full-round. Skills Hide -12, Listen -1, Spot +8 Acid (Ex) The fiendish gelatinous cube's body produces a corrosive substance. Any creature that strikes or touches the cube with its body, or that grapples it, automatically takes 1d6 points of acid damage. A creature takes damage from this ability only once per turn. This cube's acid does not harm metal or stone. Engulf (Ex) The fiendish gelatinous cube can simply mow down Large or smaller creatures as a standard action. It cannot make a slam attack during a round in which it engulfs. The cube merely moves over the opponents, affecting as many as it can cover. Opponents can make attacks of opportunity against the cube, but any creature that does so is not entitled to a saving throw. A creature that does not attempt an attack of opportunity must succeed on a DC 28 Reflex save or be engulfed. On a success, it is pushed back or aside (opponent's choice) as the cube moves forward. Engulfed creatures are subject to the cube's paralysis and acid, and are considered to be grappled and trapped within its body. The save DC is Strength-based and includes a +1 racial bonus. Paralysis (Ex) Anyone hit by the cube's slam or engulf attack must succeed on a DC 33 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 3d6 rounds. The cube can automatically engulf a paralyzed opponent. The save DC is Constitution-based. Transparent (Ex) Fiendish gelatinous cubes are hard to see, even under ideal conditions, and it takes a DC 15 Spot check to notice one. Creatures who fail to notice the cube and walk into it are automatically engulfed. Hook "That gelatinous cube is sure fast. I've never seen one move like that." |
| runestar09-26-06, 12:08 AM | It also deserves an ad-hoc cr reduction of -1 since it cannot use any gear.:( Also, since it now actually has an int score, shouldn't it lose some of its ooze traits?:P |
