| Admiral Yi Sun Shin09-27-04, 07:28 PM | I have a quick question about golem creation. Is it possible for a PC to enchant a golem in the golem creation process so that it retains that magic ability after the process is complete? For example, cast resist elements and then cast permanency or something to that effect so that when the golem is complete, it'll have magic immunity but retain the permanent resist elements. Personally I think this is possible and logical cuz u are enchanting the materials prior to the golem actually being animated and therefore there is no magic immunity and thus the permanency effects and all should work. However, the only other dilemma would be if the magic immunity would cancel out the spell afterwards, but still i don't think its magic immunity is that strong considering the golem itself is a magical being and it doesn't cancel itself out. What do you guys think? |
| gradea09-29-04, 04:06 PM | it could be allowed but would both raise the cost of the golem (and thus the exp cost) and possibly the CR of the golem |
| Incenjucar09-29-04, 10:39 PM | Their spell immunity is just uber spell resistance. If you own'em, just tell them to lower it so you can apply the spell. |
| DemonMonkeyBoy09-30-04, 05:58 AM | :b: As mentioned above adding abilities is fine (DM Pending) you just add to the cost and CR. As a DM I had a Iron golem that did not have the breath weapon of gas. Instead if injured I flame striked it self for 3d6 once every three rounds. As a player I had a shield guardian and add an exta 30,000gp in abilities. Fly, build in heavy cross bow of repeating, 2 spell storing slots and acouple more I can't think of right now. Talk to your DM about pricing and even if s/he will allow it. My DM used the wonderous item creation cost. All ablities were considered slotted, but I did not need to name the slot. What are you planning on adding to the Golem? |
| Judicator Shekar10-01-04, 09:12 AM | Please list exaclty what you wish to add to the golem both on these boards and on ours so that the members of the site can review them as well and judge their fairness (I, by the way, am the DM in Admiral's campaign). |
| Admiral Yi Sun Shin10-01-04, 04:48 PM | I was thinking of a combination of abilities that would include some or all of these: Magic Weapon (ignore magic DR) - 1st lvl spell (2,000 gp) Shield of Faith (+3 deflection bonus to AC) - 1st lvl spell (12,000 gp) Divine Power (+6 to strength and an extra 11hp) - 4th lvl spell (56,000 gp) Air Walk (flying) - 4th lvl spell (56,000 gp) Magic Vestment (+2 armor bonus to AC) - 3rd lvl spell (48,000 gp) Cat's Grace - (+4 dex bonus) - 2nd lvl spell (10,000 gp) I think it should cost something like an extra 92,000 gp and 3,680 xp and take an extra 92 days providing I get all of those added on which I most likely won't. Actually I have another question, is it possible to enchant it with a feat and/or supernatural ability. I was looking at the Eberon Campaign Setting and found the dedicated wright which has the ability to create an item for me. Can I enchant my clay golem with this item creation ability? |
| Aricandor10-02-04, 05:23 PM | IIRC, in the description of the "Immunity to Magic" ability somewhere it says that a creature with it cannot lower it voluntarily the way they could with spell resistance. I could (and probably is) wrong about this one though. |
| Judicator Shekar10-04-04, 09:08 AM | Just so you know, some of the spells you listed are not subject to Permanency. I do not think I will allow the Air Walk or the Divine Power but will think about it. |
| DemonMonkeyBoy10-04-04, 02:11 PM | I would just not using the Permanency rules at all. Use the item creation rules. Magic weapon BSQx2000 Add +1 to the slam attack and maybe allow other abilities. deflection bonus BSQx2000 +3 3x3x2000=18,000 +6 Str, +4 Dex BSQx1000 +6 36,000, +4 16,000 I would just drop the HP increase, but instead find a price to increase the HD of the golem. Ac bonus BSQx1000 +2 4,000. Agian maybe allow other ability listed in the DMG. For flying look at some of the items in the DMG. Find one that you both like and add that power to it. I would suggest Carpet of Flying so it can carrie the PC around. The above comes out to 72,000 market or if you do it your self a cost of 36,000 exp2880. (this does not include flying) |
| ziggy_killroy10-04-04, 02:19 PM | I'm not sure what page it's on, so I can't recide live and verse, but I remember reading about using your craft checks to boost your golems HP up to the max for their total hit dice. Might want to look into that. |
| Judicator Shekar10-04-04, 08:45 PM | Since the Divine Power has a personal range and can only be cast on yourself, I would argue that it would not be an appropriate boost for a golem, and in fact it would probably be illegal. |
| Admiral Yi Sun Shin10-04-04, 10:47 PM | I forgot that Divine Power has a personal range. In any case, I can just as easily substitute a bull strength in its place. Put regardless, item creation rules more or less make this negligible if it is infact possible to imbue the golem as per creating a wonderous magic item. I guess I'd just have to be able to cast a spell that creates a similar effect to the effect desired, correct? Such as a bull strength spell for the strength bonus? |
| Judicator Shekar10-06-04, 12:17 AM | That sounds good. |
