| Ikyotojin03-30-07, 09:42 AM | Are there any encounter lists for different environments? I enjoy E3 stuff, but I need charts for wilderness encounters based on the MM. Swamps, various mountainous areas, hills, etc etc. Any compiled list would help. Putting monsters in by type of area they live in would even be a help. |

First, this question seems to belong in "What's a DM to Do?" more so than here. Just for future reference. ;) Tables listing creatures based on environment can be found in the 3.0 DMG (pg. 133) or 3.5 DMG (pg. 96). Creatures of a challenging CR appear listed from the lowest challenge to highest. For any creatures not listed in those tables that you feel should be, simply add them to your encounter table. Oakspar77777 has an excellent post on designing encounter tables for your campagin. I recommend reading it, and all of Oakspar's posts are rather inspiring and informative. Oakspar's suggestion is take 20 creatures of roughly a CR 2 lower than the party to a CR 2 higher than the party for a given area and list them. Simply roll a d20 to decide a random encounter or use the list to provide an idea for an adventure in the area. Hope this helps you out. :D |
