I stumbled on the Energy Charge ability the other day (MM3 pg. 211), but I can't recall any monster having this ability or characteristic. Where's this oh-so-breakable supernatural ability coming from?

Most likely from one of the monsters within MM3.

Though there are several (seemingly) Positive Energy-linked creatures in MM3, I cannot find anything possessing energy charge either. Perhaps a creature that was cut from the rulebook had it?

Either that or it used to be a Lumi ability and was removed because of the "oh-so-breakable" aspect.

I would guess the ability was removed and they forgot to take it out of the Glossary. Seriously, the 3rd sentence switches to the description for Energy Drain, like they didn't even proofread the ability.

I agree with the removed Lumi ability idea, but the third sentence is merely awkwardly worded, not lifted from Energy Drain. It simply seems to mean that a creature that drains levels (i.e. a negetive energy creature-undead) loses 5 HP each time it gains a positive level and they wrote "it bestows" instead of "it's bestowed". It is written more clearly in the final paragraph.

That would be the 2nd sentence, the 3rd sentence says the following:
Unless otherwise specified in the creature's description, a draining creature loses 5 hit points for each positive level it bestows.
Which, reading it again, is even more confusing because it makes no sense whatsoever. Compare to this sentence from the Energy Drain description:
Unless otherwise specified in the creature's description, a draining creature gains 5 temporary hit points ... for each negative level it bestows...
It would seem like the Energy Charge ability was removed simply because the mechanics were never worked out properly.

 Did you not read what I wrote before you responded? Look again at the quote you took from my post, then read the quote you put below it. Pay special attention to the words that I put in quotation marks. I clrearly made no referance to the 2nd sentence which says

Each successful energy charge bestows one or more positive levels on living creatures

I did, the words "it's bestowed" doesn't make any sense in that context. That's why I thought you were referring to a different sentence.

I did, the words "it's bestowed" isn't English, it doesn't mean anything. That's why I thought you were referring to a different sentence.

If you want to correct MY English, I'd first suggest making sure YOUR English is right. "the words 'it's bestowed' isn't English" should read "the PHRASE 'it's bestowed' isn't English" or "the words 'it's bestowed' AREN'T English." And yes, they are English, and besides, I didn't write the original sentence, I was just attempting to help degarble it a little.

It was as close as I could get to making sense of it without completely rewriting the sentence. Obviously there was something wrong with the ability and therefore it wasn't included in any critter the book and simply slipped passed the editors in the appendix, hence the poor syntax. And it does make sense, albiet very awkwardly. The sentence would better written "Unless otherwise specified..., a creature that drains levels as a special attack loses 5 hp for every positive level that is bestowed upon it" except you aren't supposed to end a sentencce in the word "it" and so the authors had to find a way to reword the sentence, and we ended up with a confusing tangle of words.

Why waste time arguing about the semantics of the ability? It is clearly unfinished, since it exists only in the glossary, and so it is a safe assumption that it was not edited completely. In fact, it must not have been edited completely, since that would result in its deletion. Trying to decipher its intent and meaning are purposeful exercises only if you want to use the ability, in which case a far superior method would be to create it yourself instead of trying to untangle the knot of words we have been left with.
