How many DM's out there allow characters with the Evasion / Improved Evasion class ability to escape the effects of a Shadow Dragon's negative energy dealing breath weapon totally. After all, IAW (in accordance with) the SRD, it appears this would be the norm. I however am somewhat appalled that the SRD would allow such to happen. This seems to make the character almost god-like if they don't suffer any consequence at all. My idea of handling this goes as such: 1st I have revamped the description for the Evasion & Improved Evasion abilities. Now Evasion only grants an additional +4 bonus to REF saves and still takes 1/2 damage if the save is failed, 1/4 damage if the save is made. Improved Evasion grants a (stackable) +4 bonus to the REF save and if failed, the character only takes 1/4 damage. If they save, they only take 1/8 damage. Thus there is still a risk and challenge involved without the character scampering away freely after facing such a dreaded monster. This works for traps etc too. Think about it!

Dude your over doing it. There has not been hide nor hair of evasion being abused in battle. It can keep your character going with a couple of saves but it is not broken. Evasion only kicks in if you save vs 1/2 damage on reflex. If you make any other save it doesn't work. If you make a reflex save for partial it doesn't work. Personally I can see the use for a Metamagic feat that still does damage on a successful Reflex Save vs a fireball.
