Enlightened template “Enlightened” is an acquired template that can be applied to any living creature with at least 12 Hit Dice, mental ability scores above 10 and at least one mental ability score above 14. An Enlightened creature uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here. Size and Type: The creature’s type changes to outsider. Do not recalculate Hit Dice, base attack bonus or saves. Armour Class: The creature gains a deflection bonus to armour class of +1. Spell-like Abilities: at will: astral projection (self only), clairaudience/clairvoyance, detect good/evil/chaos/law, greater scrying; 1/day: commune with nature, contact other plane, vision, moment of prescience. Caster level equal to half of base creature’s hit dice (if the caster level is too low, the creature cannot use the ability without gaining HD). The save DCs are Wisdom-based. Special Qualities: An enlightened creature has all the special qualities of the base creature and gains DR 10/magic, immunity to poison, disease and mind-affecting spells and abilities, spell resistance equal to HD + 10 and permanent arcane sight and true seeing. Abilities: Alter from the base creature as follows: Str –4, Con –4, Int +4, Wis +6, Cha +4. Challenge Rating: Level Adjustment: I used the Perfect Self monk ability and the ECS's Ascendant Councilors as a base. Are the abilities unbalanced? CR/LA would be helpful. |

I would never let a PC play one of these things as the detection powers are too strong, coupled with the ease of cheese. I would also have an alignment requirement of some sort. Though for me, this template would almost never be used as I hardly see the point in giving stats of any sort to creatures that are too peaceful to enter combat. It's CR adjustment should be based on it's HD as the template provides more power the more HD you have. Maybe a +3 for below 7HD, +4 for 14HD, and +5 for any higher than 20. These might be a bit off, but SR, immunity to poison, constant true seeing, arcane sight, and boosts to all spellcasting abilities make this a dangerous spell hurler with few major weaknesses. Lastly, why give it a deflection bonus of 1 to it's AC? What is this based on/ meant to provide? |
| Prime3208-20-06, 02:24 PM | Flavour: It is possible for some beings, particularly spellcasters or monks, to achieve a state of being beyond the mundane, beyond even the monk's Perfect Self ability. These few souls achieve a unity with nature unguessed at by mortal man, while their minds wander the cosmos. Many creatures with this template have been known to receive vivid glimpses of the future. This template isn't really intended for PC use. If you want an alignment requirement, I would say either any neutral or neutral good. The deflection bonus is supposed to be a kind of "psychic shield". Something with this template will not seek out a fight, but will defend itself. |
