Within the suffocating darkness of the outer plane of Pandemonium, the endless tunnels howl with screaming winds, enough to shatter the sanity of both mortal and petitioner alike. The natives of the plane grow deaf to the winds, most with their sanity lost in the process. One of the natives of the plane, the Howler is known to scream into the depths of the plane with a wisdom sapping howl. But perhaps the Howlers are not simply harbingers of insanity, born on the winds of lament, but the mild reflections of, or even carriers of a being far, far more deadly in scope and aspect. The Howlers Lament, a being best described as an intelligent, insane, psionic virus. When manifested the creature appears as a larger than normal Howler, glowing with a phosphorescent green light, seemingly from within. Its eyes clearly show the hallmarks of insanity, its pupils jet black and cross dilated, one large the other contracted to a point. Its howls are broken only by fits of insane cackling, and the chorus of wails by actual Howlers that unnervingly seem to mimic the cries of the Howlers Lament when within a mile of a manifested form.

COMBAT

The Pandemonic Mind Virus, or Howlers Lament typically resides unmanifested inside stone carvings or curious features within the twisting caves of its home plane of Pandemonium; all places sure to draw the attention of curious planar explorers, hunters, travelers or adventurers. The creature will attempt to infect those nearing it, or touching the objects it occupies and from there spread silently to their companions, oftentimes infecting entire groups, unaware of their plight till they kill each other under its influence as it feeds upon their rational thoughts and minds. The being may gain in strength the more minds it simultaneously infects and occupies, gaining in strength by 1 HD for every 3 minds it occupies. Though there are stories of particularly virulent individual 'strains' of the being that gained such at a rate of 1 to 1. However the only one known to possess this trait was encountered within a sealed bubble in Agathion, the lowest layer of the plane, thankfully far away from planar civilization at large.

Immunities and Resistances (Ex) : The Howlers Lament is immune to disease, poisons, and sonic damage. It also has cold and lightning resistance 10.

Howl (Su): Infectious Insanity (Su): When manifested outside of a victim, the Howlers Lament can release a mind shaking howl, much like the outsider natives of the plane of its own origin. Those subjected to the howl in a radius of 300 feet from the source must make a Will save (DC 21) or take 1 point of temporary Wisdom damage.

Spells : The Howlers Lament has the abilities of a Sorcerer of caster level equal to its hit dice. It typically knows primarily spells of the enchantment and divination schools.

Manifest (Su): The Howlers Lament, while normally incorporeal, may as a free action become corporeal for the purposes of attacks. The creature typically does not manifest except when not in possession of creatures affected by its infectious insanity ability.

Infectious Insanity (Su): Creatures touching an object or other being containing an unmanifested Howlers Lament, or having a manifested version of the creature physically leap into them are at risk of gaining a fragment of the creatures psionic being inside themselves where it slowly spreads and germinates, manifesting as fractured personalities, typically with malign or psychotic intent. Such an exposure can be avoided by making a Will save (DC 25) to repulse the psionic virus.

Wisdom Drain (Su): Those hit by the bite attack of a manifested howler take 1 point of temporary Wisdom damage.

Uh, I think this entry will be disqualified for using stuff from the Psionics Handbook. The rules specifically state that only 3.5 core material can be used.

References to Psionics removed and adjusted to fit 3.5 core rules. Should make folks happy.
