Stones are set in the places where his eyes and mouth should be, and a stick functions as it’s nose. Snowmen were originally created by the evil mage Kald the White. He had an old score to settle with the villagers of Northfield, and came up with a creative way of doing so. In midwinter, he organized a snowmanmaking-contest for the children of the village. The children gladly entered, and made many, many snowmen, scattered throughout the village. That night, Kald walked through the village and cast an animation spell on every snowman. With his personal army of icy warriors, he destroyed the village. The local druid, Skell, was infuriated by this blatant abuse of nature, and put a spell on the snowmen just before she died in the attack. This spell ordered the snowmen to attack Kald, and he was quickly slain. However, the spell also ordered them to “revert back to nature’s ways”. This confused the snowmade creatures at first, but after studying other creatures they came to the conclusion that nature is all about reproduction. With this newfound wisdom, the snowmen set out to create as many snowmen as possible. Combat Snowmen are a peaceful folk, and only enter a combat if they feel threatened. They prefer all-out assaults, using their slam attacks to deal damage to an opponent. They will try to flee from any heat source they may encounter. Cold (Ex): A snowman’s body feels extremely cold to the touch, causing opponents to take an extra 1d4 points of cold damage every time the creature succeeds on a slam attack. Creatures attacking a snowman unarmed or with natural weapons take this same cold damage each time one of their attacks hits. In addition, any cold damage directed against a snowman actually heals it. A snowman heals 1 point of damage for each three points the cold damage would otherwise deal. If the amount of healing would cause the snowman to exceed its full normal hitpoints, it gains any excess as temporary hitpoints. Craft Snowfolk (Ex): A snowman reproduces by shaping new snowmen from snow and infusing them with his own lifeforce. It can construct other snowmen without the Craft Construct featand necessary spells, but it must still spend the normal amount of materials and experience necessary. In addition, the process of creating a new snowman deals 10 damage to the snowman. Skills: It’s coloration gives a snowman a +4 racial bonus on Hide checks when in a snowcovered environment. Construction A snowman is shaped from 3 cubes of snow, some stones (for the eyes and mouth), and a stick (for the nose). The snowman may further be decorated with hats, shawls, or other household objects, but these give it no extra benefit. Creating the body requires a DC 15 Craft Snowsculpting check. After the body is sculpted, it is animated through an extended magical ritual known as Winter’s Birth. To anyone other than a snowman, this ritual costs 200 gold in special powders. Craft Construct (see Monster Manual page 303), any spell with the cold descriptor, caster must be at least 6th level; Price: 5,000 gp; Cost 2,500 gold + 200 XP. You like? :) Nei |
| greedo9909-04-03, 11:45 AM | yeah i think it's kinda cool, but maybe instead of 10 points of damage, maybe some kind of temporary ability damage, maybe not. I havent tried creating monsters before so don't listen to me =) |
| Nei09-04-03, 12:09 PM | Yes, I have thought about ability damage, but the relevant ability in this case would be Constitution. And constructs don't have Constitution scores. Nei |
| Mr.Waesel09-04-03, 04:00 PM | 5000 gp for a snowman sounds a bit rippy-offy to me... |
| Shemeska the Marauder09-05-03, 12:26 AM | Unabashed sour grapes on my part here perhaps for my own concept not making the cut, but its not exactly like the snowman is a unique concept here... top that with the 'animated spell' being a Spellhaunt ripoff, so much for uniqueness in the best concept crowd. *sigh* Flame away... |
| Rag Man09-05-03, 12:47 AM | Nce creature, but unless they were magicially enhanced upon animation I'm intrigued about their hitpoints. If I can split a snowman down the middle with a shovel, I think an adventurer with a sword could obliterate the thing. [Edit: I didn't notice that they come only in large and huge. Excuse me, I was thinking about regular medium and small snowmen.] |
