Epic Battle... [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-12-06, 01:07 AM This is fairly simple. A giant horde of Devils versus a giant horde of Demons. Imagine if all the hells of all the worlds suddenly poured into one plane and an epic, LotR-style (thus D&D) battle broke out with Pit Fiends and their armies fighting Balor's with theirs.

My money's on the Demons... but I have friends who claim that not only would Devils destroy them in a fight, but the whole LE vs CE thing breaks down to Unity vs. Disjunction.

Any opinions?

06-12-06, 04:23 AM Perhaps you are not familiar with the Blood War, which is already doing the very same thing you are talking about. Demons versus Devils. Both sides also employ Yugoloths, who are making a killing in mortal souls (as currency). What it came down to was this: neither side is winning, nor will they for quite some time.

However, since Asmodeus has horded together millions of devils inside his personal castle on Nessus, and the Dark Eight have done no such thing that we are aware of, it may be safe to say that the demons will have a winning edge in any smaller than multi-planar conflict. But the devils can manage to outwit them, unless the demons do something outrageous enough to throw off the devils' plan, unless the devils have a back-up plan, unless the demons do something that cannot be planned for. That would work for the demons, unless the devils have an unrelated strategy that can be used in almost any situation... except for if the demons were to sew chaos among the devils, unless the devils are mindful enough to know what to do in that case, or if they can function well enough even with a little impeding chaos. But even if that did happen, the devils might be able to get more yugoloth soldiers out of the yugoloths, except for that there are just more demons, so they can pony up more souls...

Do you see the cyclic nature of this argument? It eventually loops back on itself, and that's where this eternal Blood War thing came from. I think.

But, if you're just tlaking about a single, very small battle limited to less than 50,000 of each, I'd say it would drag on for days, weeks or even months. And then eventually, ... I don't know which side would win. I think it would be the devils.
