This moisture floods the land around it, forming a rippling pool. Water-loving moss streak down the tree's sides and slick algae coat its roots. The Dripping Delugia is a creation come to life by a druidic ritual of binding a water elemental to a tree of great size and age, often one that is at risk of death from drought, which soaks up the elemental into itself. The combination assures that the tree will not die from thirst and is now likely to live as long as the immortal elemental. The Dripping Delugia is often used to guard special areas from fires and drought, and thirst beasts are often saved by taking a few swigs of its substance. The dripping delugia is about 60 feet tall with a trunk some ten feet in diameter. It weighs some many tons. Dripping delugias speak aquan and sylvan. Combat Dripping Delugias are fond of hiding within the mists and confusing its enemies. It will then wrap its roots around its opponents and pull them bodily underwater to drown. A Dripping delugia takes no attack or damage penalty from fighting underwater. Bond of Water (Ex): If a Dripping Delugia is destroyed the elemental is released. The pool immediately congeals anywhere along its previous space and forms into a Huge water elemental that may act the succeeding round. Deluge (Ex): As a full-round action a Dripping Delugia can cause the constant fall of water about it to increase mightily. This causes a great billowing cloud of mist to surround the area out to 60 feet. The fog obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature within 5 feet has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker can’t use sight to locate the target). This fog cannot be disipated by wind. As well, those within 60 feet are partially deafened, taking -10 to all listen checks. Exposed, non-magical fire have a 50% chance of going out each round. If within 10 feet of the Delugia all hearing is lost and non-magical fires are intantly put out. Drench (Ex): The Dripping Delugia's touch puts out torches, campfires, exposed lanterns, and other open flames of nonmagical origin if these are of Large size or smaller. The creature can dispel magical fire it touches as dispel magic (caster level 17). Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a dripping delugia must hit with a slam attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can try to hold its opponent underwater. Pool (Ex): The pool that surrounds the Dripping Delugia extends out to 60 feet and is usually only two feet deep. The dripping delugia however can increase this depth to six feet, or reduce it to one inch, taking a full round for each adjustment. Penalties associated with water levels apply. The Dripping Delugia can automatically sense any creature in contact with its pool. As well, any poisons released into the pool are filtered within 1d6 rounds as the Dripping Delugia constantly circulates and purifies its waters. Vulnerability to Fire: A dripping delugia takes half again as much (+50%) damage as normal from fire effects, regardless of whether a saving throw is allowed, or if the save is a success or failure. Water Mastery (Ex): A dripping delugia gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls if both it and its opponent are touching water. Water Walk (Sp): A Dripping Delugia may root into water itself and can remain still or move across its surface as the Water Walk spell. Skills: A dripping delugia has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. It can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line. |
| pileobone06-05-06, 11:31 AM | Wow, cool. Hard to find interesting and truly original plants anymore. That's an awesome picture, it's play on perspective reminds me a lot of Escher. Do you happen to know who the artist is? |
| Golem01106-05-06, 11:31 AM | Wow... This is cool! More stuff to populate the Shasa jungles! Ooh, my players are gonna enjoy this... |
| The Vorpal Tribble06-05-06, 11:39 AM | Do you happen to know who the artist is? Oh ho, you bet I do. Its by Jacek Yerka, my favorite artist of all time. In my opinion he's even better than Escher. Escher seemed to be going more for optical illusions. Yerka paints dreams. Here is a link to the largest collection of his paintings I've been able to find: http://www.yerka.pl/Yerka-pic.html |
| The Vorpal Tribble06-05-06, 11:49 AM | This is cool! More stuff to populate the Shasa jungles! Ooh, my players are gonna enjoy this... I got tons of other jungle-type creatures you might be interested in. Want a link? |

| Golem01106-05-06, 03:11 PM | Cool, cool, and more cool. I like these... ooh, cricketmen... I think my players would appreciate a cup of tea... *evil grin* And the belly serpent is great! I want one as a pet now! Thanks, these are great. Got any more aquatic monsters, also? I dunno, with the new monster format I'm not sure I'd want to do monsters for them :yuck: You have a very good point... |
| The Vorpal Tribble06-05-06, 03:29 PM | Got any more aquatic monsters, also? Got a good number, but they are ocean-based. Still going to be useful for your jungles? |
| Golem01106-05-06, 03:33 PM | Yup. The place is just one enormous jungle archipelago! And I'm sure I can adapt some of them... ooh, like my tombfish. Basically an enormous shark with a stomach twice its length, excreting through a membrane because the stomach isn't covered and only releasing metallic etc objects once a year when it also releases all of its stomach acid... |
