| EvilVegan05-02-04, 07:00 PM | Could an Ettin caster cast spells with both heads simultaneously? Could one head cast a spell while the other head attacked? |
| captainswift05-02-04, 09:28 PM | Despite having two heads, the ettin is one creature, and is therefore entitled to actions as such. If logic beyond game balance must come into it, let's assume your ettin sorcerer is casting fireball. Even if only one head does the verbal component, it must still use both hands to perform the somantic. Similarly, if one head decides to attack with weapons, the other can't concentrate to perform any actions. If you want to make the creature literally of two minds, you can either break the rules, and just say he can cast and attack at the same time. Or, just give him Quicken spell, and use it to simulate popping off a spell with one head while the other guides an attack in the same round. This means he's wasting a lot of high level slots on lower level spells, but it's still pretty damn scary when the giant two-headed beast charges you with a greatclub while he's launching lightning bolts. |
| NightScreamer2005-02-04, 09:36 PM | Check Savage Species for a feat called Multivoice. It requires a crapload of other feats (Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Multiattack, Quicken Spell, and Two-Weapon Fighting). As a full-round action it lets you cast/use 2 spells or spell-like abilities or breath weapons or eye rays or such. He cannot however attack with one head and cast with the other, attacking requires the whole body to act in order to dodge and weave and strike correctly. |
| TheMoose05-02-04, 10:13 PM | If the ettin was a psionist, could it attack and use its psionic abilities, if it was thinking with both heads individually? |
| Thoth_Amon05-03-04, 09:21 AM | Ettins don't have a high enough charisma to be a sorceror do they? It would be an interesting encounter all the same though. |
| EvilVegan05-03-04, 01:15 PM | well it comes from ettins having superior two-weapon fighting, because each head controls an arm independently, so I was extending that line of thinking to maybe sayting they could act independently. How many hands do somatic components require? 3.0 an ettin could be a pimp psychometabolist or kineticist. And it wasn't a pure ettin, it was an ettin firegiant mix, so it could be a sorcerer (since firegiants specifically state they often have sorcerers), but I didn't mention it because its not really the mechanic I was worried about. |
| cwslyclgh05-03-04, 01:27 PM | actually there is no problem making ettin sorcerers, they have a +0 modifier to Cha (just like a human)... ettin wizards on the other hand are probably pretty rare (considering that Ettins get a -4 to intelligence). by the rules an ettin sorcerer can only cast 1 spell per round unless they take the feat in savage species that nightscreamer mentioned (I personaly do not remember that feat, but as my SS is 100 miles away right now I have no way of checking, so I will give NS the benifit of the doubt :P ) |
