I have an idea for an opponent to put up against my players, and I was wondering if it would be feasible for an Ettin spellcaster to cast 2 spells per round, 1 with either head.

Would it depend on whether they were verbal only spells?

Each of its heads controls an arm so i think somatic would be possible too. Get his intelligence up a little bit and yeah I believe you could have a good monster there. Good idea, I wonder about a hydra :D lol.

If I Recall Correctly there is a feat somewhere that allows a monster with 2 heads to cast more then one spell in a single round.
I don't recall where the feat was located or what its called, maybe multispell.
But a good place to look would be Savage species.

I noticed that the ettin is specifically missing the ability to cast multiple spells each round, so I would have to say :NO. :( Unlike other monsters like bazim gorag or the schism power, which explicitly state that you are able to get multple actions/round, the ettin has no such text, however close its flavour might come to insinuating such an ability.

SO, no, since nothing in the ettin desc states that it may cast more than 1 spell each round.

there is the feat in savage species mentioned about. I know it exists but I can't seem to find it.

A normal Ettin (that is, one without special feats and the like) cannot cast multiple spells in a round any better than anyone else. Why? Becasue the Ettin is still limited by a single set of actions each round, just like everyone else (one move action, one standard action, one swift/immediate action, and as many free actions as the DM will allow). Nothing in the text of the Ettin says otherwise.

Shame too, it would be cool to see a duel-spellcasting Ettin. :(

You are correct! It's called Multivoice. It's got godawful prerequisites, though; you've got to be quite the powerful monster to be able to get this.
MULTIVOICE
If you have two or more heads, you can cast more spells than usual in a round.
Prerequisite: Dex 15, Int 15, two or more heads, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Multiattack, Quicken Spell, Two-Weapon Fighting.
Benefit: As a full-round action, you can cast one additional spell (or use a spell-like ability in combination with a spell or another spell-like ability) each round. Each spell used in this way must have a casting time of 1 action; a spell-like ability must also take no more than a standard action to use. Using this feat provokes an attack of opportunity. If your concentration is interrupted during this simultaneous casting or spell-like ability use, whether by taking damage or by some other means, a Concentration check is required for each spell or spell-like ability. Failing either Concentration check negates both spells or spell-like abilities.
You can also use one head to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability while another head activates a head-based special attack, such as a breath weapon or an eye ray.
Normal: Without this feat, you can cast only one spell per round and cannot combine spellcasting with other actions.
Special: You still cannot exceed the limit of one quickened spell per round when using this feat.

Thanks all for the replies.

If I want an Ettin that casts 2 spells a round, the simplest way might be simply to introduce a new monster to my campaign world, some kind of uber mutant offshoot of a standard Ettin.

Yeah pretty much, make your own mutant offshoot seems to be the best option. I'm gonna start working on a hydra with that multivoice feat, I'll post it whenever I finish. :D

Already been done. :) Look up the nagahydra in Serpent Kingdoms. It casts as a 15th lv sorc, and can cast 1 spell each round for each head it has - and the sample entry comes with 7 heads...

Oh cool, I gotta get that book then. I was just looking at that multiheaded template and thinging of all the fun I could have with that and the multivoice.
