OK, I need a great flavour flying beast, usable as a mount by a bloke in full plate. Think Blackguard death from above.

But the old standards (griffon, hippogriff, pegasus, wyvern) just aren't cutting it (though wyvern is close) for the flavour we're looking for here.

The characters are 12th level, so something on par with that is great. Any thoughts?

Well, my evil character regularly mounts a succu...

Oooooh, a flying creature to ride in COMBAT.

Nightmare. ECL 10, awesome fly speed, ultimate villiany, and you can always customize it with templates or simply advance the HD.

I second the Nightmare. That sucker is fast, and has extremely powerful spell-like abilities at will.

Fiendish and/or half-dragon version of any large+ creature? Good call on the nightmare, though. Fiendish dire eagle (races of Stone) should be relatively easy.

Doesn't one of the books have rules for Lesser Nightmare and Greater Nightmare?

THe thing about fiendish creatures is that they're just... fiendish creatures. The Nightmare is a creature in its own right, an instantly recognizable force of evil.

Now, if you can get wings on a Nessian Warhound (hellhound) somehow (Half white dragon to give it two immunities and no weaknesses?) it's just as impressive, but that requires being LAWFUL evil.

Hmm. Advanced Night Hunter (a type of Bat) or Peryton (from Unapproachable East). Personally, I never thought of those critters as being particularly Oriental in flavor.

Add winged template to an advanced Hellhound or Nessian hound would work. If you really want a flying mount, a multi-headed winged Hellhound would be nasty -- some misbegotten offspring of Cerberus perhaps.

Even a fiendish pegasus would work. Half-fiend unicorn or a chimera even an evil sphinx.

Fiendish gryphon.

Though you don't have to call it that. You can say it's a Dread Hawk of Hades! :)

There was a Dungeon Magazine A whiles back with a floating cloud of Giants that used half white dragon griffons, personally id like an evil (N)PC of uber blackness to ride on a nice white evil bird-dragon, good clash of scary

How about cryosphinxes or manticores?

Use Animate Dead to zombify a Very Young Red Dragon. The result is something like:

Large Undead
HP: 20d12+3 (133)
Initiative: -1
Speed: 40ft, 150ft fly (clumsy)
AC: 20 (-1 size, -1 dex, +12 natural), Touch 8, Flat Footed 10
BA/G: +10/+20
Attack: Bite +15 melee (2d6+6)
Full Attack: Bite +15 melee (2d6+6) and 2 Claws +10 melee (1d8+3) and 2 Wings +10 melee (1d6+3) and Tail Slap +10 melee (1d8+9)
Special Attacks: -
Special Qualities: DR 5/slashing, single actions only
Space/Reach: 10ft/5ft (10ft with bite)
Saves: Fort +6, Reflex +6, Will +12
Abilities: Str 23, Dex 8, Con -, Int -, Wis 10, Cha 1
Skills: -
Feats: Toughness
CR: 6
Alignment: Neutral Evil

It's big, fast, and (unlike a nightmare) not about to question you if you make a stupid decision and can't be forced to turn on you.

Someone kinda beat me to this (flying hydra) but get yourself a ten-headed shrieking terror for ultimate evilness! Plus, you'll be followed by sycophantic vargouilles wherever you go - and what sort of evil psycho doesn't want big flappy heads kissing his butt around the clock!?

Ahhh, but imagine how terrifying his blackguard will become when his butt breaks away in 4d6 hours and flies at his enemies!!!!

I can not recall if it flies or not, but the Black Unicorn (from the 3.0 Monster Compendium) is "favored" by evil knights. The only restriction is that you must be female to ride it.

Also, there is an item in Savage Species called Horseshoes of Flame. 3/day a command word may be spoken which allows your mount to gain MAJOR bonuses to int/etc as well as gain fly and fire hooves just as a nightmare. The duration is like 7 hours or until dispelled so it can pretty much be used all day long. It only costs like 35,000 too so it would probably be in your price range. If you are unable to get/keep another creature, just slap some of these on your Fiendish Warhorse (from Blackguard feature) and viola - you have an INCREDIBLE flying mount!

take that and throw the spellstitched template on it for the spells at caster lvl 20, the spell resistance, damage reduction, and esspecially the turning resistance because i dont even want to think about being a top a dragon when it runs away in fear for a minute

see MM2 for template, might edit it in when i get home

The updated version of the Spellstitched template is in either Complete Arcane, Libris Mortis, or both.

Half-Fey slapped onto something evil, or Unseelie Fey slapped onto anything fast.
Fiend Folio and the Dragon Compendium/Dragon #304, respectively.
Because evil butterfly wings are pimp.
