Hey all,
If this has already been disscussed elsewhere please direct me to the tread.

My question is this: How do you figure how much EXP is required to level for any of the various monsters, or templates in the various books.
For example say I have Dulback the troll.

Dulback Starts out his life with the standard 6d8 troll Giant HD. Now for Dulback to take his first level of fighter does he need 15,000 EXP (+5 LA, + 1 fighter = Lvl 6). 21,000 (6 giant HD +1 fighter level), or does he have to advance through the giant and and the LA before he can level and be effectivly ECL 12 when he first levels. In short could someone de-mystify the the Level advencement rules and the rules for ECL.

Thanks,
Greven

A troll is ECL11(6 giant HD, LA+5), thus it is treated as the equivalent of an 11th lv character for purposes of xp and treasure. As such, you would need to be 12th lv before you are eligible to take your 1st class lv.

IIRC, this works out to 66000xp [0.5*ECL*(ECL-1)*1000xp].:)
