Virtually nothing is known of Faceless Ones. They are known to be intelligence and cunning adversaries, but otherwise act like mindless creatures. They are frequently found in the service of powerful evil creatures, but they themselves seem to have no agenda. It is thought that they are created through some dark and twisted means, but no proof of this has ever been found.
Faceless ones are short and humanoid in shape, averaging around four feet in height. They have a medium-gray, hairless flesh. All wear simple shirts and pants, usually black in coloration. Many also wear masks. Faceless Ones are also aptly named, for they have no faces – no eyes, no nose, no mouth, no ears, no hair. Their hands are three-fingered, and their feet lack toes of any kind.
Faceless Ones do not speak, but obey the verbal or mental commands of whomever they are serving without question.
Typically, Faceless Ones encountered by adventurers are of the Hired Killer NPC class (which can be found in the Oriental Adventures board and the Classes & Prestige Classes board). The stats above are for one of 1st level. However, they may advance as members of any class, despite apparently lacking a mind.

COMBAT
Faceless Ones take full advantage of their small stature, enjoying sneak attacks and backstabbing. They attack in large numbers, never fewer then four. Faceless One spellcasters act intelligently, aiding their allies in combat. If a battle is turning against Faceless Ones, they are perfectly willing to flee. Captured Faceless Ones make every attempt to kill themselves, even though they physically cannot divulge secrets.
Mindless: Faceless Ones are, despite their seeming intelligence, utterly mindless. Enchantment and illusion spells and effects to not phase them. They cannot be compelled or forced to perform actions in any way. Probing their minds reveals a gray wall that cannot be passed, even by the gods.
Dissolution: A slain Faceless One dissolves away into nothingness 1d4 hours after it has been slain. There is no known spell or effect that can prevent this from happening, not even such spells as gentle repose.
Learning: Faceless Ones can be trained as members of any class; gain levels and grow as other creatures do. This is in direct contradiction to their Mindless nature, and even the wisest scholars are at a loss as to explain why this is so.
