| I Am Famine10-16-05, 04:52 AM | Hello and thanks for checking out my post. The contest is now closed so please no more entrantss (not that I was getting any!), instead I want your votes. The rules on voting are as follows... There are 2 categories, the best concept and the best game mechanics. The first is your favorite idea of the following monsters, the second is the creature which you felt had the most cohesive and balanced stats. You can if you wish vote for the same monster in each category. You cannot vote for your own creature/s. The voting will end on 10th Nov whereupon the scores will be tallied and a winner for category and an overall winner will be decided. When somehow dies at the gallows the last desperates thoughts that race through their minds must be of panic, fear and misery. Sometimes however an individual (whether wrightly or wrongly accused) sometimes think hateful and veangeful thoughts before the ropes snap their necks. These individuals will most certainly arise as hangmen. These creatures resemble pale and bony versions of their former selves with a long dark rope hanging loosely from their necks. This rope writhes and floats with an unholy life of its own. Their eyes are demonic black orbs and their mouths are permanantly shaped into an unnaturally wide grin. Some believe their horribly smiling faces are a symbol of their veangence, gleeful at the strangulation of those who thought them dead. Hangmen understand but cannot speak Common. COMBAT Hangman bound into combat with glee bounding and tumbling like wild animals. Depending how its mood takes it will either pounce on the largest and strongest looking opponent, or try to constrict the most vulnerable opponent it can see. When it groups they become especially lethal when as many as five Hangmen attempt to strangle an opponent. Improved grab (Ex): To use this ability the Hangman must hit with its rope attack. If it gets a hold it can use its constriction attack. Constrict (Ex): A Hangman deals 1d4+2 poimts of bludgeoning damage with each sucessful grapple check against Large or smaller opponents with its rope attack. Each round its opponent may make an opposed grapple check to pull the rope away from his neck. Create spawn (Su): Any humanoid slain a Hangmans constrict attack becomes a Hangman is 1d4 rounds. Spawn are under the command of the Hangman that created them and remain enslaved until its death. They do not possess any of the abilities they had in life. Gallow fall (Ex): If a Hangman is within arms reach of a wall it can halt its descent whilst falling. It takes 1d6 (+1 for every 10 ft. fell) damage but it stops falling immediatly, hanging from its neck in a mock gallow fashion. They can begin climbing back up or down the surface as a standard action. Undead: Immune to mind-influencing effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning and diseise. Not subject to critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, ability damage, energy drain, or death from massive damage. Skills: Hangmen are unnaturally athletic, giving them a +8 racial bonus on all Jump and Tumble checks. |

They delight in devouring long-dead corpses and despise the taste of warm, recently living flesh. These creatures however will happily slaughter any living thing it comes across, so it can bury and save them for another day. Mortisugator's look like a 15 to 20 foot long hybrid of maggot and caterpillar. Thjeir fleshy bodies are mottled in a vile pattern of pallid whites, juandice pink and a particulary gangrenous, scabrous green. Their most disturbing feature however is their vaguely humanoid head. Their face is twisted and their three eyes are placed rather randomly around it, dominated by a crooked, drooling, yellowed maw. Hanging from their bodies and face is years of torn unshed skin and weeping, blinking sores. They speak Common and Undercommon. COMBAT Mortisugator's despise the taste of living flesh so they only use their bite attack when absolutely necessery or fighting a particulary powerful opponent. If it does however its victim is in trouble as their mouth contains a variety of particulary horrifying viruse's. They delight in violence and will prolong its victims pain and terror if possible utilizing its many spell-like abilities. Offal spew (Ex): A Mortisugator can spew a trail of partially liquidized decaying flesh from its stomach. This spew sprays out in a cone 30 ft. long dealing 1d8 points of acid damage due to relatively mild corrosive properties of its stomach acid. Also those caught in the spray must make a Fortitude save (DC 18 +1 for each point of acid damage they took) or become nauseated for 1d10 rounds. It cannot use this ability again for 1d4 rounds. Nauseating stench (Ex): All those within 30 ft. of a Mortisugator must make a Fortitude save (DC 18) or become nauseated for 1d8 rounds due to the stench of offal and rot emanating from its diseased body. Those who suceed at the roll save are immune to that Mortisugator's nauseating stench ability for 24 hours. Diseased bite (Ex): Those who take damage from a Mortisugators bite attack must roll a d6. Depending on what they roll there is a chance they might contract one of the three following diseases; 1-2 Vomiting Wrack; Fort save 10 (+1 for each of damage taken from the initial bite attack). Failed save causes the victim to suffer 4d10 points of damage as it violently regurgitates its organs and lifeblood out. 3-4 Grey Accidie; Fort save 10 (+1 for each of damage taken from the initial bite attack). Failed save causes the victim to lose 1d4 points of dexterity damage per round until it reaches 0, caused as its sufferers muscles start to to rapidly age and detoriate causing the victims skin to wrinkle and turn grey. 5-6 Rotting Visage; Fort save 10 (+1 for each of damage taken from the initial bite attack). Failed save causes the victim 1 point of permanent wisdom and charisma damage each hour, Wis and Cha scores must have a minimum of 1 point. This truly horrible disease causes its victims face and mentality to wither away leaving a faceless, emotionless husk. Spell-like abilities: 5/day; blasphemy, blur, confusion, tasha's hideous laughter. 20th level spellcaster. Flesh aversion (Ex): A Mortisugator uses its bite attack against any corporeal, living being it must make a Will save (DC 20) or be forced to use its offal spew attack all over itself. It is of course immune to its effects (infact it does so to banish the taste of living flesh) but it takes 1d10 points of subdual damage. |

| Mysticaloctopus10-22-05, 10:49 AM | Hmm... I'm not a brilliant statter, but here goes The Purple People Eater Huge Dragon Hit Dice: 20d12 (120 Hp) Initiative: +1 (+1 Dex) Speed: 50 ft., Fly 50 ft. (20 ft. with Bite) Special Attacks: Improved grab, Sunder buildings,Swallow Whole. Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., Peoplefinding, Terror aura, Wants to Sing. Saves: Fort +12, Ref +4, Will +7 Abilities: Str 24, Dex 12, Con 18, Int 15, Wis 13, Cha 12 Skills: Climb +5, Feats: Weapon Focus (Bite), Weapon Specialisation (Bite), Building Throw. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Climate/Terrain: Any land and populated Organization: Solitary CR: 12 Treasure: Double Standard Alignment: Always Lawful evil Advancement: 13-20 HD (huge) 21-30 HD (Gargantuan) LA: - We all know this song. It's the Purple People Eater! For rules purposes, it's a big one-eyed, one-horned purple flying gozilla monster. The Purple People Eater wants to be in a band, but wants to eat people as a close second. Combat A flying Purple People Eater opens by charging with it's bite, hoping to swallow a person, then makes a full attack round each round afterwards with two bites. If it feels threatened, it makes a full attack with it's claws, gore and bite, and if that fails it retreats to hurl a building. Improved Grab & Swallow Whole (Ex): A Purple People Eater can attempt to start a grapple as a free action if it hits with it's bite. Then it follows the normal rules for swallowing, transferring from mouth to gullet to stomach, et cetera. Damage per round is 1d8 bludgeoning and 1d8 acid, and it takes 30 points of slashing or piercing damage from a small weapon to cut a hole. The purple people eater can have 1 large, 4 medium, 8 small or 16 timy or smaller creatures in it at once. Creatures are digested 2 rounds after dying, leaving the people eater free to eat more, and leaving no remains of a body to resurrect. Sunder Buildings (Ex): A purple People Eater is counted as one size category larger than it is when fighting buildings and deals double damage to a building. It ignored 30 points of hardness against buildings and can grapple a building that is on half hitpoints to pull it from the ground Peoplefinding (Sp): A People Eater can sense the nearest settlement of sentient humanoids within 10 miles. Terror Aura (Su): A People Eater causes terror in all creature of less than 2 HD within 100 feet of it. This is used to make commoners cower for ease of eating. A will save of DC 18 negates this. Wants to Sing (Ex): If it sees a band playing, or a group of 3 or more bards performing, a people eater loses interest and tries to join in. If accepted, the people eater is not hungry for 1 month, at which point it makes a will save, DC16+1 for each month it's not eaten. if it fails, it devours the band and resumes it's rampage. If attacked, the people eater resumes it's rampage but doesn't attack the band, who can make a perform check DC 20 to calm it and bring it back. Building Throw (Ex): A People Eater is treated as one size larger than it is for wielding buildings as thrown weapons. The range is 60ft, no increment, and the building deals 1d12 points of damage per size larger than large. This means a people eater can throw large or huge buildings with a +8 bonus for 1d12 or 2d12 points of damage. A people eater gains a +10 morale bonus to grapple checks agains made against buildings or constructs. Grappling and lifting a building on half-health or less is a standard action, throwing is an attack action. treat the building as a grenadelike weapon if it misses, in which case it'll probably hit with a splash (actually the area it takes up). It's not brilliant, but i had the idea. Enjoy! :D |
| Lazzmaniandevil10-22-05, 01:11 PM | Here is a monster inspired by the song "rock lobster", by the B-52s. Rock Lobster Large outsider (Earth, water) Hit Dice: 8d8+32 (68 hp) Initiative: -1; Speed: 20 ft. burrow 20ft., climb 10ft. Armor Class: 19 (-1 size, -1 dex, +11 natural), touch 8, flat-footed 19 Base Attack/Grapple: +8 / +20 Attack: claw +15 melee (1d6+8) Full Attack: 2 claws +15 melee (1d6+8) Space/Reach: 10 ft./5 ft. Special attacks: Improved grab, Constrict 1d6+8 Special Qualities: darkvision 60ft; amphibious, earth and water mastery; damage reduction 5/+1; immunity to acid and cold; resistance to electricity 10; resistance to fire 20; rock transmutation vulnerability Saves: Fort +12, Ref +5, Will +6 Abilities: Str 26, Dex 8, Con 18, Int 9, Wis 10, Cha 6 Skills: balance +10 (+14 on rocky shores), climb +19 (+23 on rocky shores), hide +6 (+10 on rocky shores), intimidate +9, listen +6, move silently +3, search +7, spot +6, survival +6, swim +9 Feats: power attack; improved sunder; great fortitude Environnment: warm aquatic; warm marshes Organisation: Solitary or colony (2-5) Challenge rating: 6 Treasure: standard Alignment: always neutral Advancement: 9-15 HD (large); 16-21HD (huge) Level adjustment: --- The rock lobster looks like a giant crustacean with a carapace that seems to be made of rock. It usually lurks submerged or partially submerged, patiently awaiting for prey. Despite their heavy carapace, rock lobster are relatively good swimmers and sometimes adventure in deep waters, but they generally prefer to remain in shallow water. A rock lobster is about 9 feet long and weighs around 800 pounds. Rock lobsters speak their own language, a mix of aquan and terran. Improved grab (Ex): To use this ability, a rock lobster must hit with its claw attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple, it establishes a hold and can constrict. Constrict (Ex): A rock lobster deals automatic claw damage on a successful grapple check. Amphibious (Ex): Although rock lobsters are aquatic, they can survive indefinately on land. Earth and water mastery (Ex): A rock lobster gains a +1 bonus to attack and strenght checks if both it and its opponent either touch water or touch the ground. If the opponent is airborne, the rock lobster suffers a –4 penalty to attack. Rock transmutation vulnerability (Ex): Because its carapace is made of rock, it is susceptible to transmutation by the transmute rock to mud spell. The caster who attacks the rock lobster in this fashion must first succeed a caster check against a DC of 10 + the rock lobster HD. If the check is successful, the rock lobster lose 1 point of natural armor, plus an additional point for every 5 points by which the check result exceeds the DC. A rock lobster can regenerate its natural armor at the rate of 1point per day. The natural armor can also be regenerated with a transmute mud to rock spell (using a caster check in the same way as for transmute rock to mud), but it must be done within one hour of the original transmutation, as mud tends to slide off the remaining carapace. Skills: A rock lobster has +4 racial bonuses to balance, climb and hide checks while on rocky shores. How it was built: I started with the stats of a 8HD large monstous scorpion: changed the speed from 50ft to 30ft.; added a climb speed; took out the sting attack and the poison special attack; took out the tremorsense 60ft. and the vermin traits; changed the racial skill bonuses; added the amphibious special quality; changed base attack bonus and base saves to those of an outsider; changed intelligence to 9 and charisma to 6; added the appropriate skill ranks and feats; added the elemental template (both earth and water, minus the swim speed) from the Book of templates, deluxe edition, published by Silverthorne games; added the rock transmutation vulnerability. |

| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht10-22-05, 03:13 PM | Incidentally, the 'Purple People Eater' isn't purple. It eats purple people. Then again, the lyrics aren't the easiest thing to understand. I hopefully will have some time tonight to stat up some of my monsters. (Up to ten now, although one of them has nothing to do with the song that inspired it. Don't know how it inspired it, but it did.) |
| I Am Famine10-22-05, 03:38 PM | 'The Sound-Out Competition' by Taint PSYCREECH Medium-sized Monstrous Humanoid (Extraplanar) Hit Dice: 3d8+6 (19 hp) Initiative: +3 (+3 Dex) Speed: 40 ft., fly 60 ft. (average) AC: 20 (+3 Dex, +3 natural, +3 studded leather armor, +1 light steel shield), touch 13, flat-footed 17 Base Attack/Grapple: +3/+5 Attack: Heavy pick +5 melee (1d6 +2) or heavy crossbow +5 melee (1d10 +2) Full Attack: Heavy pick +5 melee (1d6 +2) or heavy crossbow +5 melee (1d10 +2) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Opposed sonics, nervous shriek Special Qualities: Darkvision 60ft., keening flight Saves: Fort +3, Ref +6, Will +5 Abilities: Str 14, Dex 16, Con 15, Int 13, Wis 15, Cha 17 Skills: Balance +3, Escape Artist +4, Knowledge (the planes) +3, Sense Motive +6, Spot +5, Use Magic Device +10 Feats: Armor (Light), Shield Proficiency ------------------------------------------------------------------- Climate/Terrain: Pandemonia Organization: Solitary, pair, gang (3-5) or party (6-15) CR: 6 Treasure: Standard coins; standard goods; double standard items Alignment: Usually chaotic neutral Advancement: By character class LA: +5 Psycreech are a mysterious race of alien humanoids that hail from the wailing madness of Pandemonia. Their voices are said to sound like harshly distorted wind and they seem to traverse the galeful tunnels of Pandemonia without any ill affect. They relish noise and despise silence and peace. Their alien minds only find true contentment while admist keening and loud cacophonies. As well as this innate psycological need for sound they also have a cultural fascination of arcane artifacts. Many Psycreech individuals and organizations have particular favorites such as magical weapons, books, wands and staffs, etc. Unlike most beings they have little (if any) concept of theft despite their apparent intelligence, having a curious mindset which dictates them to assume that what they want is what they own. Hence if a Psycreech's 'property' belongs to a Human wizard then the material plane dwelling arcanist has stolen the Psycreechs artifact, at least in its mind it works that way. Psycreech look like 7 to 8 ft. tall goblins with elongated scope-like eyes, elongated lupine snouts and cowls of platinum white spines. The skin tone is blue but with an exception to its head and upper torso a Psycreech is covered with plates of thin and flexible dull red exoskeleton. Their legs bend dramatically at the knees whereupon a Psycreech balances on two long lilac-colored mantis-like claws. Although they have no wings Psycreech can fly at an impressive speed. When in flight the air warps and shimmers slightly around them as their forms let a quietly high-pitched tone. Psycreech speak a bizarre shrieking, wailing language of their own as well as Auran and Common. COMBAT A Psycreech is a capable melee and ranged warrior, providing even seasoned adventurers a bit of challenge. Their martial skill however dims in light of their considerable sonic attacks and defences. If a sonic attack is used against them then at best the affect is negated. At worst the sonic attacks are countered against their casters. Unfaunately a Psycreech isn't adverse to using its Nervous shriek attack or flying away if its has achieved what it iniated combat for. Opposed sonics (Su): A Psycreech is immune to all sonic attacks and damage. If a Psycreech is targeted by a sonic attack (such as sonic spell cast by a spellcaster of a monsters sonic attack) then its attacker must make a Reflex save (DC 12 +half the attacks rounded up DC) or suffer from the attack as though the Psycreech cast/performed it. For example if a Destrachan used its destructive harmonics attack against a Psycreech it would be forced to make a Reflex save (DC 15) or suffer the affects of its own destructive harmonics. The attacker fails the save any resistance or immunity to sonic attacks still applies. Nervous shriek (Su): Once per 1d6 rounds as a standard action a Psycreech can release a blast of sonic energy in a cone 60 foot long. Those caught in the cone must make a Fortitude save (DC 18) or suffer 1d10 points of subdual damage. For 1d10 rounds they suffer from a -5 penalty on all saves as their mental and physical capabilities are temporaily reduced by the shock of the shriek. Keening flight (Su): A Psycreech can cancel or resume flight as a move-equivelant action as quiet but powerful sonic pitches lift them from the ground. It loses its ability to fly if caught within the radius of a silence spell. Skills: Due to their cultural fascination of arcane items, all Psycreech gain a +5 racial bonus on all Use Magic Device checks. PSYCREECH CHARACTERS Psycreech are ECL 8 characters (2 racial HD + LA +5 + 1 class level = Lvl 8 character). Psycreechs favor the Rogue class though many Bards and Sorcerors with an emphasis on item creation and sound based spells exist as well. A few become more martial and wind up being Fighters and Barbarians. |

I hopefully will have some time tonight to stat up some of my monsters. (Up to ten now, although one of them has nothing to do with the song that inspired it. Don't know how it inspired it, but it did.) Well it doesn't have to be completly related to the song. 'Bacterial Breakdown' is a song about the process of decay. The dirty agression and vileness of the song inspired the Mortisugator far more than the lyrics did. So long as the monsters were inspired they can be entered, i'm not strict on how they inspired you other than they caused the idea to form. |

They cannot stand peace and find it impossible to relent to law and order. Though few Temper-tantrums would randomly attack innocents, it take only the slightest annoyance to get one in the mood for violence and brawling. If you have Temper-tantrum as a friend then you've got a relentless and very protective ally. If your unlucky enough to have made an enemy of one however you'll find an infinity of heated (literally) hatred and bloodshed snapping at your heels. Temper-tantrums look like short-statured humans with fiery-tinted skin, that sometimes flashes into an charred black colour. Their eyes are bright, bloodshot and wild and their needle-filled mouths are twisted into a sadistic grin. They have no hair except for red and black mohicans on each temple. Small fires burn atop their pointed nails and their skin is covered in dying embers and ash. They speak Common and Ignan. COMBAT Temper-tantrums relish in combat, instinctively getting more vicious and skilled the more the odds are against them. If they see the chance to cause mayhem by setting something (or someone) alight they wont hesitate to do it. Fiery claws (Su): At will as a partial action a Temper-tantrum can cause its claws to ignite, an effect which lasts 1d10 rounds. Those who take damage from its claw attacks must suceed at a Reflex save (DC 15) or takes an additional 1d8 points of fire damage as their clothes are set aflame or armor becomes searing hot. The damage continues for 1d4+2 rounds after the Temper-tantrums last successful attack. Temper-tantrums can also ignite flammable materials with a touch if they so desire. Breathe fire (Su): Temper-tantrums can breathe out a cone of flames as a standard action. The cone is 30 ft. long and those caught within its area can attempt a Reflex save (DC 17) to take only half-damage. Once it uses this attack it cannot breathe fire again for 1d8 rounds. Street fighter (Ex): Temper-tantrums seem to get harsher and more feral the more outnumbered they are. A Temper-tantrum gains a temporary +1 bonus to all attack rolls for each opponent that attacked it, successfully dealing damage or otherwise. Temper-tantrum traits: Temper-tantrums are immune to fire and sonic based attacks but take double damage from cold based attacks. TEMPER-TANTRUM CHARACTERS Temper-Tantrum's are ECL 8 characters (3 racial HD + LA +4 + 1 class level = Lvl 8 character). Temper-tantrums favor the Barbarian class, though more intelligent and subtle Temper-tantrums often progress as Fighters or Rogues. Temper-tantrum rangers who specialize is hunting mortal humanoids are increasingly common, and rumors of Warmage Temper-tantrums have yet to be confirmed. |

| Olly10-28-05, 09:38 AM | Thanks for the link, but, for now, I'll just post up ideas. I don't really have the skill or the time to create full-blown monsters, but hopefully, my ideas will inspire others. First of all, what about the Shiny Demon from Tenacious D's 'Tribute'? http://www.tenaciousd.com/images/tribute_video/007.jpg A strange breed of tanar’ri that stalks long and lonesome roads, preying on bards, setting them seemingly impossible challenges in exchange for safe passage… Or perhaps the 'Black Knight' from the Deep Purple song of the same name? Some sort of devilish outsider that blinds his foes with dark light and, rather than remaining in Baator, with the other devils, is always off, wandering the other planes? Hence, "Black knight is a long way from home…" ;) Or this ghoulish... 'thing'... from the Aphex Twin's 'Come To Daddy' video? http://www.director-file.com/cunningham/5266.jpg |

Very creative use of Deep Purples 'Black Knight'. If I ever use any of your ideas Olly I'' give credit next to the entry. That goes for anyone else who uses another posters idea. Or this ghoulish... 'thing'... from the Aphex Twin's 'Come To Daddy' video? http://www.director-file.com/cunningham/5266.jpg Possibly the greatest music video of all time. Well done Olly... :cloud9: I believe someone else posted a creature based on it somewhere, i'll go look for it. |
| Olly10-28-05, 10:16 AM | Thanks a lot, Famine. If I have any more ideas, I'll be sure to post 'em up. :D |
| I Am Famine10-28-05, 10:45 AM | Hmm, I couldn't find the damm thing. It was a creature called an Aphex Rageling and somebody made it on the mature boards. Oh well, heres a few ideas I have... 'Return to Oz' by Scissor Sisters These bizarre dream creatures are shapechangers whose appearance alters according to what alignment it decides to take on, which can be random at the best of times. Its LG form is that of an giant, animate light-filled suit of ornate celestial armor. Its NG form is that of an angelic looking stag-headed giant eagle. Its CG form is a stripy-furred, horned, insectile golden-eyed giant. Its LN form is a radially patterned orb with clockwork arms. Its N form is a faceless marble-skinned cloaked giant. Its CN form is tripedal mound of throbbing, shrieking, spiny flesh. Its LE form is a serpentine humanoid with a hundred hag-like faces. Its NE form is a vulture-headed giant spider. Finally its CE form is a wall of clawed hands surrounding a single wild, rolling eye. The only thing that connects them as the same being is a four-leaf clover shaped necklace which hangs from them regardless of form. Many sages believe that these 9 forms were actually once 9 seperate races who warred upon each other due to their beliefs. As a punishment for their hatred and prejudice towards one another the Gods binded them togethor as a single, scizophrenic being. INFLUENCE: The monsters are based on the fantasy lyrics of the song. I used a four-leaf clover as the object that binds as it is mentioned in the song as a man wishing health on a four leaf clover. If they lose this necklace the creature perishes. 'Keine Lust' by Rammstein These fey beings look like beautiful anthropomorphic woodland animals with large expressive eyes and long elven hair. Many take on the forms of humanoid deers, swans, wolves and cats though other animal types are possible. Despite their anatomical differences these creatures have Nymph-like powers of seducton. INFLUENCE: This song is about animal lust, infact I think thats what Keine Lust means. Perhaps a bit to on the 'furry' side for most... :P 'Cosmonaut' by At The Drive-In These humanoid aberrations are known as Astral Vigilantes. They are the anarchic heros of the planes, effortlessly shifting from plane to plane, immuneto any harsh and unnatural affects the multiverse may throw at it. They look essentially like muscular and athletic dark-grey skinned humanoids with a mandibled segmented mouth, featureless bright white eyes and marble like exoskeleton on their arms, legs and back. They often wield many bizarre magical weapons unlike anything found on the material plane. Their heads sport prismatic hair which changes colour, shape and length according on the creatures mood. They traverse the planes using their epic powers to directly face evil and injustice. INFLUENCE: The songs title reminded me of the multiplanar races like Ethergaunts and Kaorti. Plus the arty and heroic sound of the song put a picture in my mind of these nihilistic alien adventurers. 'Heartwork' by Carcass This vile undead abomination seeks to slay those who are in love as they are unnatural remains of those who died at their lovers hands. At a distance they be vaguely mistaken for a Beholder but it doesn't take long to realize that this is far more horrific. They look like oversized slowly pulsating disembodied hearts the size of a fully grown man. Black blood drips from beneath them as they float, whilst harsh and distorted gurgling noises emanate from within them. INFLUENCE: Mainly the word 'Heart' and 'Carcass' ;) , the sounds they produce is based on the singers voice. |
| I Am Famine10-29-05, 04:51 AM | I'll eventually get around to creating some of these ideas. I might have to catch up with Raymond to see if he still wants to enter. Anyway I hope more people will want to have a go soon, I can't really start the votes until there at least 3 contestants. Just myself and Lazzmaniandevil doesn't really count as a viable number of contestants... :( Anyway here's some random ideas... :D 'We Came Out Like Tigers' by Wives Trapdoor Tigers are a bizarre species of big cat that create burrows into other creatures territory so they can burst from the ground to pounce on them. They look like stumpy-limbed fat tiger-like creatures with small eyes and fleshy whiskered nose's like a mole. Their fur is dark brown and covered with stripes of a dull blonde colour. INFLUENCE: Just the song-title. In an attempt to figure out exactly what they meant I pictured these big lumbering cats emerging from caves or bursting out of the ground. 'Icarus Smicarus' by McLusky This frantic and scizophrenic pseudonatural being is in a constant internal battle with itself, parts of it want create life whilst at other times it wants to destroy it. It is said to represent the constant rise and fall of civilizations. It resemble basically a digigrade humanoid with massive feathery that shift between pristine and clean swan-like feathers and scraggly black vulture-like ones. Its skin is either fair and palely veined or its skin just dissappears completly, revealing the raw red sinew beneath. Its face shifts from being angular and handsome like a celestial to a bloody skull with a horribly distened toothy mouth. INFLUENCE: The lyrics, which are violent most of the time "Fall over yourself and break heads kid... Get back in your hole get dead son..." But the chorus is strangely hopeful "Get out of those shoes and grow wings dear"... |

I've always been fond of strange offshoots of existing species on our own world. I'd like it if you gave 'em the Animal type, rather than Magical Beast or something similar. |
| I Am Famine10-29-05, 07:22 AM | I like this idea. I've always been fond of strange offshoots of existing species on our own world. I'd like it if you gave 'em the Animal type, rather than Magical Beast or something similar. I agree. I dont like when a monster gets given the Magical Beast just because its weird looking. They're essentially big predatory moles anyway. I should get around to creating them later, and perhaps some of the other ideas there... :D |
| Olly10-29-05, 07:23 AM | I agree. I dont like when a monster gets given the Magical Beast just because its weird looking. Heh heh. You're my clone! :D I look forward to seeing these guys statted up and unleashing them on my unsuspecting gaming group... :evillaugh |
| Lazzmaniandevil10-29-05, 07:58 AM | 'Keine Lust' by Rammstein ...INFLUENCE: This song is about animal lust, infact I think thats what Keine Lust means. Perhaps a bit to on the 'furry' side for most... :P Actually "keine lust" means "no desire" and I think the song is more about lazyness and lack of passion that leaves you with no desire to do anything with your life.... |

They look vaguely like their more mundane relatives but their limbs and thicker and stumpier, and their bodies are wide and obese. Their fur is dark brown and covered with brown-blonde stripes, and about the same length as their cousins. Their eyes are small and ther tails thick and stumpy. Their most bizarre feature however is their pink mole like nose which is flanked either side by four or five fleshy whiskers. They have the tendancy to move in on other creatures territory by simply digging under it, taking its locals by surprise. Normally they stick to the plains and mountain wilderness to acquire territory, though on many a occasion have these patient and perceptive beasts have attempted to invade humanoid-inhabited countryside. COMBAT Trapdoor Tigers tend to stay hidden underground, swiftly burrowing up to pounce on their prey when the opportunity presents itself. They keep attacking unless seriously threatened where they'll burrow back into the earth only to randomly re-emerge on an alarmed and panicked foe. Burrow Burst (Ex): If a Trapdoor Tiger whilst burrowing has a temporary tremorsense out to 90 ft. If it has detected an opponent or object it can swiftly re-emerge and it can make four claw attacks instead of two, but it cannot bite. The attack bonus is +12. Tremorsense (Ex): Trapdoor Tigers can automatically sense the location of anything within 60 ft. that is in contact with the ground. Pounce (Ex): If a Trapdoor Tiger iniates combat from its burrow burst ability, or leaps onto an opponent during the first round of combat it can make a full attack even if it has already taken a move action. Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability the Trapdoor Tiger must hit with a claw or bite attack. If it gets a hold it can rake. Rake (Ex): A Trapdoor Tiger that gets a hold can make two rake attacks (+9 melee) with its hind legs for 1d8+3 damage each. If a Trapdoor Tiger pounces or burrow bursts onto an opponent, it can also rake. |
| I Am Famine10-29-05, 08:29 AM | Actually "keine lust" means "no desire" and I think the song is more about lazyness and lack of passion that leaves you with no desire to do anything with your life.... Damm Metal Hammer mag has been lying to me  ! Thanks for facts Lazzmaniandevil... :D |
| Olly10-29-05, 08:33 AM | Oh well, I liked your idea about the animal-headed nature sprites anyway, Famine. ;) |
| I Am Famine10-29-05, 08:39 AM | Oh well, I liked your idea about the animal-headed nature sprites anyway, Famine. ;) They can go on the backburner for now, they could of easily turned into a disturbing topic on the mature boards for Sulaco to rail against... :P What do you think of my Trapdoor Tigers Olly? |
| Olly10-29-05, 09:02 AM | They can go on the backburner for now, they could of easily turned into a disturbing topic on the mature boards for Sulaco to rail against... :P I can't see what his problem is. Just keep your eyes below neck level, and you'll completely forget you're ****ing a swan. :P What do you think of my Trapdoor Tigers Olly? They're better than perfect, my friend. I cannot wait to use one in a 'monster hunt' type scenario. They'll never expect a tiger to come from underground! :D |
| I Am Famine10-29-05, 02:15 PM | I can't see what his problem is. Just keep your eyes below neck level, and you'll completely forget you're ****ing a swan. :P Now I wont be able to realize this dream Olly!. I'll just have to find another song about animal lust... :P They're better than perfect, my friend. I cannot wait to use one in a 'monster hunt' type scenario. They'll never expect a tiger to come from underground! :D I'm glad you liked them :D Tell me how that encounter goes... But seriously though the last time I checked 241 people looked at this thread, where are all those lurking homebrewers when you need 'em? :( |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht10-29-05, 02:26 PM | But seriously though the last time I checked 241 people looked at this thread, where are all those lurking homebrewers when you need 'em? :( I have less time available than I thought. My collection is now up to 11 monsters, with no time to stat them up. Hopefully I'll have time in early November. |
| Mysticaloctopus10-29-05, 05:33 PM | Incidentally, the 'Purple People Eater' isn't purple. It eats purple people. Then again, the lyrics aren't the easiest thing to understand. I hopefully will have some time tonight to stat up some of my monsters. (Up to ten now, although one of them has nothing to do with the song that inspired it. Don't know how it inspired it, but it did.) Purple people eater is purple and eats purple people. But then to make purple people you'd need a good supply of wands of wonder and a better supply of luck. From the Wikipedia Entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/purple_people_eater) : "Purple People Eater" was a novelty song, written and performed by Sheb Wooley (1921-2003), that reached #1 in the pop charts in 1958. The song has remained popular for over forty years, and sold over one hundred million copies. So, i assume it'll eat anyone for game purposes, and the creature has been made larger and stronger. Consider the old one as a non-advanced PPE. |

That sounds good but remeber not to overdo it just because we only have a few monsters. These contests seem go either way, either loads of people post about 1 or 2 creatures or only a handful post loads. Thanks for showing an interest though and I cant wait to see what you come up with. |
