Is this the board wher ei can ask about Fast Healing? I've heard alot of people say that Fast Healing doesn't work below 0 hitpoints. I'm wondering where they got this from. Can anyone help me out?

Fast healing works below 0 hit points, unless the creature is one that is destroyed at 0 hit points, such as non-living constructs and undead.

in that case though fast healing will not work below -10 hp... basicaly the creature has to be "alive" for the fast healing to function, it won't work if the creature is dead/destroyed.

I guess this means fast healing doesn't help you until you are stabilized:
As long as you are 'dying', you cannot heal naturally, thus fast healing doesn't work either.

Fast healing works below 0 hit points, unless the creature is one that is destroyed at 0 hit points, such as non-living constructs and undead. Some living creatures have "above 0 hp" clauses in their fast healing descriptions, too.

you think stabilizing isn't natural healing? it may not grant hit points, but clotting blood is definatly healing.

Since when does dying prevent natural healing? Usually being dead in less than 10 rounds renders most characters natural healing moot but I don't recall any rule stating that dying characters cease healing.

infact based upon the fact that characters have a chance to stabalize on thier turn whether or not somebody helps them would lead me to conclude that natural healing is infact occuring while they are dying.

however the paragraph on recoviering with out help would seem to disagree with that idea, and show Jhaelen's idea to be correct.
(from the SRD):

Recovering without Help: A severely wounded character left alone usually dies. He has a small chance, however, of recovering on his own.
A character who becomes stable on his own (by making the 10% roll while dying) and who has no one to tend to him still loses hit points, just at a slower rate. He has a 10% chance each hour of becoming conscious. Each time he misses his hourly roll to become conscious, he loses 1 hit point. He also does not recover hit points through natural healing.Even once he becomes conscious and is disabled, an unaided character still does not recover hit points naturally. Instead, each day he has a 10% chance to start recovering hit points naturally (starting with that day); otherwise, he loses 1 hit point.
Once an unaided character starts recovering hit points naturally, he is no longer in danger of naturally losing hit points (even if his current hit point total is negative).

Fast Healing (Ex): A creature with the fast healing special quality regains hit points at an exceptionally fast rate, usually 1 or more hit points per round, as given in the creature’s entry. Except where noted here, fast healing is just like natural healing. Fast healing does not restore hit points lost from starvation, thirst, or suffocation, and it does not allow a creature to regrow lost body parts. Unless otherwise stated, it does not allow lost body parts to be reattached.

half-vamps have a wonky fast healing anyway, it only works if they have between 1 hp and 1/2 thier full normal HP total.

(from the SRD):Ah, thanks. That's the section I really should have been quoting :)
I half-remembered this, because some time ago the question came up when one of my players had a Dragon Shaman character and was using the 'Fast Healing Aura'. Back then we ruled a dying character would first have to be stabilized before he could gain the aura's benefit again.

so Fast Healing woulnd't auto stabilize me, as healing of any kind would stabilize a dyeing character?
