A shadow is wide enough to get through an airship's walls when it's hovering in the air. The airship takes off, and since it is faster than the shadow, does the shadow pass through the hull? What about if the ship is surrounded in a shield?

It's not in the rules but consider this;

The world is spinning, orbiting a sun and moving through the universe at incredible speeds (probably) yet an incorporeal creature that isn't affected by gravity and can move through matter manages to move around instead of flying off into space (or whatever).

I would rule that shadows, incorporeals, ghosts etc... are all manifest in the physical world by force of ego and will. Their innate understanding of what is going on is central to their presence especially since the rules of physics rapidly fall apart as we get closer to their experience.

So if there is a place they recognize they cannot go, it denies them. If you can convince them that they are banished they are.

This understanding is innate they cannot change it or break the 'rules' by reprogramming themselves. You might find an incorporeal who is sucked out of a flying ship but that is likely because they are tied to a distance from a particular place or thing not because of the speed of the ship.

what if the ghost had died on board the airship. would it be tied to the airship, or its relative position regarding the planit it was above?

Just as a house rule, I'd rule that a spirit that is currently manifesting itself in a building, or around an item, can travel around in it without trouble. If a ghost is, for lack of a better term, 'directing it's evil energy at causing nastiness in a place', it can move through that place as if it were a solid location, static in space. Consider a haunted asteroid, or a ghost from a ghost ship going onto a normal ship. If it leaves that place it may have trouble getting back, if it travels fast, but otherwise it's inside and hauntin' away. No real rules behind it, but it makes ghosts easier to run, harder to do away with via RAW loopholes not intended to go there and besides, it's a ghost! It floats through walls, posesses people and goes "grr, arg". Why can't it go inside an airship to haunt sky people?
