I know, I know it's not considered proper to use those. But sometimes you really need to seize control from players who have gone to the munchkin side.

My fave: a Dragon (any chromatic, or in Ebberon possibly a metallic) that spent ALL its treasure allotment on magic items only suitable to dragons (barding sized for a colossal quadruped with wings, etc).

Oh, and all of the equipment has [Evil] properties.

A high-level NPC monk who spent nigh all his allocated gold on wishes to get ability score boosts and a few quirky special capacities (some minor SLA or minor immunities/resistance, frex).

If you can logically give him the Vow of Poverty, even better! Tough as nail, and nothing to loot by a tattered loincloth! :D

You could do _both_. Have the VoP monk spend all his money on wishes then take VoP as his 18th level feat. Not quite as effective in the bonus feat department, but more than enough agony for the PCs.

I do something similar with Arcane casters. Any spellcaster I genuinely want to be tough and that might have wish has +5 to spellcasting and +4s to Con, Dex, and Wis. Since the players can't loot it, it doesn't really matter. (This philosophy was born from a passage in the ELH that said you should totally ignore the cost of providing NPCs with Epic spells, since they cannot be looted).

Hmm. VoP Dragon...
