We can skip all the fractional CR monsters and won't bother with Epic (unless you really want to). Bloodbloater(FF) - One of my favorite swarms. I used one of these to great effect on a 1st level party in the sewers. They are pretty deadly for being CR1. Thoquaa(MM1) - I love these things. I use them every chance I get. I template them, advance them, do whatever I can to them. They are absolute killers of low-level parties. Assassin Vine(MM1) - There is a lot of good stuff at CR3 to toss at a party, but the huge advancement range and overall versatility of this monster make it a winner for me. (Allips are a close second for me) Harpoon Spider(MM3) - Even more good stuff.. but I just like the Harpoon Spider. I just think they are cool. Ravid(MM1) - Hard choice, but I have fond memories of Ravids living inside statue gardens... Girallon(MM1) - So many good choices... but I love Girallons so much.... 3-Way Tie(MM1) - Chuul, Succubus and Umber Hulk. All 3 are so nasty and effective. Mind Flayer(MM1) - What can really top it? A Bodak maybe. :) Caller in Darkness(Psi) - Undead, incorporeal, psionic. Mmmm Dooooom! Rakshasha(MM1) - close seconds are Scarab Beetle Swarms and Abyssal Ghouls. Retriever(MM1) - They are just cool. Frost Worm(MM1) - They are really fun the first time you use them on a party. When they don't know they explode.... Beholder(MM1) - I stand by the Beholder as the ultimate killing machine at CR 13. Tomb Tapper(FR) - I just like them. They are tough beasties. Annihilator(Underdark) - Rust Monsters that Disintegrate. We have a winner. :D Teratomorph(MM2) - Incredibly annoying monsters to fight. Lucent Worm(FF) - Very nasty critters. Nightcrawler(MM1) - All the Nightshade critters are tough... so the Crawler can represent for all of them. Corpse Gatherer(MM2) - Nasty. Balor/Pit Fiend(MM1) - I would say Tarrasque, but honestly I'd rather fight the Tarrasque than either the Balor or the Pit Fiend.

And indeed, I cut the list down as much as I could. 1/4 moonrats- Just too much fun! 1/2: Skiurid: They would be great familiars, and a good way to spice up any large plant monsters. (An evil trent maybe infested with them) 1/2: Clockwork Mender-a construct nuts best friend 1: Iron Defender/Clockroach- I just love constructs 2: Iron Cobra-See above 2: redcap- lots of fun in the right setting 3: rust Monster- Always wanted one as a pet for a druid or ranger. 4: hydra (normal 5 headed)- fun mounts. See Arms and Equipment Guide 4: Harpoon Spider- Good option for Master Transmrgrafist PrC. 5: Ambush Drake-Just like the idea of it. 6: Hook Horror- A vulture Beetle. Nice! 7: chuul- I've always had a soft spot for them. Just look at that face, How could you NOT want to snuggle up with one? 7: swamp Lynx: I love anything that loves the taste of elves. 7: Greenspawn Razorfiend- Very scary. Just imagine one of these things ambushing a group of travelers in a swamp. Will save or crap yourself. 7: Nimblewright- Again, I love constructs. 8: Grey Render-I like monsters that the party can use. Even if only sometimes 9: Dragon Turtle- Reminds me of a snapping turtle I had as a pet once(IRL). Only giant size. 9: Lodestone Marauder- Has a rather fun set of abilities. 9: Ironclad Mauler-Giant. Metal. Bear. 10: Bronze Serpent- (See Iron Defender) 11: Dragon Eel- I think this is how a Sea Monster SHOULD be. 12: cadaver Collector- A construct with a zen for corpses?! WTF! 13: Iron Golem- (See Iron Defender) 14: Siege Crab- (See Grey Render) 15: There is no number 15. Keep moving. 16: Zodar-such an interesting monster. I don't understand HOW to use it. DM aid? 17: See Number 15. 18: (THIS SPACE RESERVED FOR THE EPIC LEVEL COMMONER) 19: Chronotyryn- Giant cocky time birds. With a tech fetish ALMOST as big as mine own. 20: Megapede- I just like how these things look. And I 'd also Like to add the Lycanthrope template in there also.
