| wanderer379105-20-07, 03:04 PM | I was looking at different stat blocks for animals/beasts from the MM and online and I am wondering why some have more feats than they seemingly should. For example, the stats given for Guen (Drizzt's cat) at this link (http://ww2.wizards.com/Books/Wizards/?doc=fr_lonedrowstats) show that she has 5 feats: 1. Alertness 2. Improved Natural Attack (bite) 3. Improved Natural Attack (claw) 4. Multiattack 5. Weapon Finesse I found this odd because she has 9HD (so feats at 1,3,6, and 9). Where does the fifth feat come from? At first I thought it wasn't an official stat block, but it is on the wizards site, so I wasn't sure if I had a mistake in my understanding. Do all magical extraplanar beasts get Alertness perhaps? Thanks for any insight. |

| wanderer379105-21-07, 09:29 AM | Ahh. Are these bonus feats listed anyplace? Would the "Cat" from the MM be the baseline for the larger cats? Thanks. |
| Gnarl05-21-07, 01:04 PM | Ahh. Are these bonus feats listed anyplace? Would the "Cat" from the MM be the baseline for the larger cats? Thanks. Normaly, these feats are marked with the letter B. I'm not sure the cat is a good baseline for larger cats. Due to it's small HD, any feat is a bonus feat :D. But if you're the DM, feel free to add whatever feat seems appropriate for your cat, otherwise, well one or two feats such as Track or Alertness isn't unusual on animals so you might get away with it. |

That are arbitrary additions which follow no rule at all. |
| Morwen05-21-07, 01:42 PM | Cats have Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat, which explains the extra feat. |
| Derren S.05-21-07, 02:04 PM | Except that Guen does not have Weapon Finesse. |
| Morwen05-21-07, 04:55 PM | Except that Guen does not have Weapon Finesse. Ehm, yes, it actually does have Weapon Finesse: Guenhwyvar: Female unique panther; CR 7; Medium magical beast (extraplanar); HD 9d10+36; hp 85; Init +6; Spd 40 ft., climb 20 ft.; AC 24, touch 16, flat-footed 18; Base Atk +9; Grp +13; Atk +15 melee (1d8+4, bite); Full Atk +15 melee (1d8+4, bite) and +13 melee (1d4+2, 2 claws); SA improved grab, magic strike, pounce, rake 1d4+2; SQ darkvision 60 ft., devotion, evasion, low-light vision, plane shift 2/day, scent, share spells, tricks; AL NG; SV Fort +10, Ref +12, Will +5; Str 19, Dex 22, Con 18, Int 5, Wis 15, Cha 9. | Derren S.05-22-07, 02:02 AM | I totally missed that. Somehow I thought such bonus feats would be listed first, not last. |
