It is gray as ash, and tiny puffs of smoke float up where it dances. Its face resembles a goblin, but it has enormous, pointed ears and its eyes glow like tiny embers. Emberlings, sometimes called cinder children, are fey of fire. They appear similar to tiny goblins composed of ashes, with glowing orange eyes. They exist near fires, and sometimes appear spontaneously in a forest fire, a lightning strike, or even a campfire. They are among the most capricious of the fey, having no regard for the future or the past. Like the fire they are born from, they exist from moment to moment. Emberlings stand approximately 8" tall and weigh less than a pound. Their skin is hot to the touch but not harmful. They speal Sylvan and Ignan. Combat: Emberlings attack by slapping foes with their hands, which deals 1 point of fire damage. They vastly prefer to use their spell-like abilities, resorting to touching the foe only when they have no other options. Evasion (Ex): An emberling subject to an effect that allows a Reflex save for half damage takes no damage on a successful save. Fire Subtype: Immune to fire; +50% damage from cold. Spell-like Abilities: A will--ray of flame (as ray of frost, but fire instead of cold). Three emberlings acting together can cast burning hands (DC 13) or pyrotechnics once per round. Five emberlings acting together can cast faerie fire or scorching ray once per round. Caster level is 3rd; the save DCs are Charisma-based. PEACHes ho! |
| pileobone04-07-06, 10:59 AM | Simple and cool! I love im', cute little smoking bugger. Heh, would be a insane character, less than a foot tall. HA! He could use rats as mounts. hehe, can you imagine an army of these little dudes riding a swarm of rats? Firing flame rays to and fro. |
| Lord_Canius04-07-06, 12:15 PM | I could see the evil members of this fey race worshiping a Hex Luminae as a god, and to good and nuetral ones worshiping an elder fire elemental as a god. Good job on a flavorful and fun looking creature! |
| Moon-Lancer04-07-06, 12:49 PM | you should just say that they know all fire spells, but each fireling counts as a caster level for meeting the prereq for the spell that is cast. |
| Joex_The_Pale04-07-06, 01:44 PM | you should just say that they know all fire spells, but each fireling counts as a caster level for meeting the prereq for the spell that is cast. That is a neat idea, but too powerful for these little folks. Maybe every 3 or 4 would count as one spellcaster level. Or they need an increasing amount as they go up. (eg. 2 for 1st, 4 for 2nd, 8 for 3rd, etc) Personally, I like em the way they are. I just might have a few pop in on my group to brighten their evening... :D Good job! |
| Talisman04-10-06, 04:32 PM | Thanks for all the good feedback! I agree with Joex_The_Pale; giving them all fire spells and the ability to stack spellcasting ability is just too powerful. Interesting idea, though; I may design a monster based on it... |
