Besides, in D&D, having age categories infinitely long does not excempt you from breathing. They are only immortal in that sense: Irregular ageing. They aren't immortal like "no weapon can harm her, shedoes not need to eat, sleep, drink" etc. Slight difference.
Boondoggle 04-07-04, 05:59 AM	Outsiders and elementals are also imortal, but they don't need to eat or breathe. Fey, being immortal and needing to eat, create a problem of sustainability. They would quickly overpopulate them selves and cause a famine. Either that or their birth rate is so incredibly low or they are blood thristy enough to kill themselves off as fast as they repopulate. Maybe there's some sort of chronic fey wasting disease...
Incenjucar 04-07-04, 06:05 AM	1) Fey tend to live in areas of distorted time 2) Those areas tend to be rather expansive or expandable 3) Fey are not known for rapid reproduction 4) Unseelie and Seelie fey war on each other 5) Fey are hunted by many creatures and many cultures, for various reasons. I wouldn't put it past a cat or rodent to eat one because it resembled an insect. 6) Fey beat cats in deadly curiosity. They tend to get themselves in dangerous situations.

Fiends rather enjoy it, though it usually is a result and reflection of their particular nature. Ie. Tanar'ri typically devour their fallen enemies (as much to prevent regeneration as to simply destroy and consume in that oh so symbolic way), and Yugoloths are consummate carnivores simply as a way of reflecting their own (self-assumed?) position atop the ladder of evil in the lower planes.
Boondoggle 04-07-04, 04:56 PM	Erm, thanks for the OT post... Fiends eating the corpses of their foes doesn't really affect the sustainability of the system. The point I was making is that if fey need to eat and live forever, they will overpopulate unless there is some form of attrition rate relatively close to their birth rate.

malykoth 04-08-04, 01:52 PM	The "over population" problem is assuming, of course, that sprites reproduce in the same manner as mundane creatures. In our campaign, the very plane of Faerie itself generates pixies. They just sort of wake up, fully formed, under cabbage leaves, inside flowers, etc. They actually find the mortal method of reproducing rather amusing (and I guess any further discussion on THAT particular topic needs to go to the "Mature" discussion list!).
