| Hudson06-28-03, 05:10 PM | at what age do succubus or demons in general reach maturity? same age as humans? |
| ikki06-28-03, 05:43 PM | They are never born, but made. So aswer would be: immediately. Ceremonies differ in time and reason.. demons are more randomly chosen, while devils all begin low and are given promotions.. |

Ceremonies differ in time and reason.. demons are more randomly chosen, while devils all begin low and are given promotions.. I dont have any offical say so on this but I would agree. They are made/born/conjured with full INT but spend the rest of their life trying to get bigger/badder/sneak'e'er whatever. Check out the first chapter in the book 'Shadow of a Dark Queen' by Raymond E. Feist Thats how I picture it even tho its not supported by WotC |

I would dispute that statement and so would some people at wizards of the coast. For an Explanation: CLICK HERE (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20030629a) (and then download the adventure and read the background info. I would imagine that fiends and celestials would have similarities in the area of weather or not they're born mature) |

| ikki07-01-03, 08:30 PM | Bah, heresies! Fiends etc are made from petitioners.. ie dead people. First into larva (gray waste variety as others are unstable), and bought from night hags. Fiends then make more of their kind from the larvae to fight the eternal bloodwar. Planescape basics. |

One caveate to that however are the Yugoloths. They aren't formed from the souls of the dead / petitioners. They coalesce from the essence of the Grey Waste or Gehenna. As well, they're true breeding, and any two lesser Yugoloths can mate to spawn a Mezzoloth, regardless of which type of lesser Yugoloth mate. Greater Yugoloths can breed as well. A pair of Nycaloths can spawn a litter of young Nycaloths who then fight to the death to allow the strongest to live. Two Arcanoloths can birth a young Arcanoloth, and an Ultraloth can give birth by itself, but only to a young Arcanoloth. The juvenile 'loths then must climb the fiendish heirarchy from the position of their birth, though this rank from birth seems to rub many of the fiends the wrong way and ill prepares the young fiend for the manipulations and subtleties of rank that centuries or millennia of struggle to rise in the ranks from lesser to greater Yugoloth would prepare them for. The newborn fiends are likely nothing like the mortal concept of newborn, similar to a grown fiend but smaller in stature and power but likely mature in frighteningly quick fashion. Power above, I love Planescape....:D |
| Brian.C07-01-03, 10:31 PM | Tanar'ri can breed as well, at least according to 2nd Ed. rules. Baatezu might be able to breed now too... I've seen several modules that say so, like one that claimed an erinyes had a father who is a pit fiend (it was in an issue of DUNGEON, I think). - Brian |
| Lankin the Mad Mage07-02-03, 09:50 AM | Well, according to the MotP Archons are "awarded" better/more powerful shapes when they asre deemed worthy. On the 6th layer there is a ziggurat where the judging takes place. Almost all sources (3E) I've seen state that the power a devil has is intrinsically linked to the amount of souls he has. Some also claim that Devils gain a higher rank/new form when he has enough souls/personal power. And, yes, IMC petitioners CAN be awarded fiend/celestial status, and then begin to climb the social ladder. But that's just me. |

| Shemeska the Marauder07-03-03, 12:22 AM | Well as much as I'd love to simply say, 'Pike off you sodding sod!' in true Planescape fashion, I won't. ;) True, the glory that is Planescape isn't 'core'. Heck technically nothing but greyhawk really is if you want to be a stickler. But based on how much of the 3rd ed MotP was based off of Planescape material, and since the MotP says little about the question of the thread, it's rather reasonable to assume we can fall back upon the Planescape answer to the question. |
| Azar07-03-03, 02:30 AM | Actually the thing about the larva and such is in The Forgotten Realms campaign setting somewhere, like when they talk about Kelemvor and the afterlife. Also, not just petitioners became planars, sometimes the fiends would steal away souls to turn them into new demons and devils. And as an ending note, planescape rocks! |
