| SOPI07-11-06, 10:15 PM | Well, I finally got Monster Manual IV, and I think that it is a great Monster Manual. I don't see what some people don't like. I suppose the class monsters (especially most of the orcs) seemed a bit...dull, but it's better than the Monster Manual II if anything. And some of the classed monsters are very interesting. (Gnoll warlock, for example.) Plus, it seems to me that the new monsters seem plentiful enough. There's enough of them in it for me. I guess some people want more. I'm satisfied. One thing I'll note is the use of art over again. The art for the slaughterstone constructs was the same in both Races of Stone and MMIII. However, this was because the slaughterstones were reprinted in the book. Unless deeplosts and craa'ghoran giants are the same thing, then they gave us the art for another monster in place of art for this monster. We also see the full page picture of the Cult of Tiamat from Complete Divine. This is good for me (who doesn't own Complete Divine) but bad for those who already do. Some deity symbols are reprinted too, but that's not a bad thing necessarily. I like the full-page art in this book, but wish there was more of it. I give MMIV a solid 6.5/10, which compares to other monster books as follows: MM 10/10 MMII 5/10 MMIII 9/10 FF 7.5/10 MoF 5/10 |
