Fire Elementals, Pit Fiends and Dragons oh my... [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-13-06, 03:31 AM Have 3 separate questions about these three separate creatures, unfortunately I can't afford the MM right now, but the questions should break any rules of the site because I'm not asking for full layouts....

I'm taking Improved Familiar at my next level up, and am pretty much set on the Fire Elemental as my choice....but I noticed two things about it that I need clarification on...1)It's slam attack, is that automatic whenever it makes a melee attack, or does it have to be declared? 2) It has Weapon Finesse...is that for it's unarmed melee? As I understand WF, you need to be proficient in a weapon as a pre-req.

Pit Fiends? What is their Will Save? And are they considered large or huge creatures.

Dragons...Mainly a black dragon...does a black dragon have an achilles heel like say a red dragon takes aggrivated damage from cold based damage?

To understand it better, replace 'slam' with 'claw' - the only difference is in type of damage dealt. A slam attack is a natural attack, not an unarmed strike, which is a different thing altogether.

A creature is automatically proficient with any natural attacks it has.

Pit Fiends? What is their Will Save? And are they considered large or huge creatures

A Pit Fiend’s will is +21, factoring in a 26, or +8, to wis, meaning it has a base save of +13. A Pit Fiend is large.
