| Silversheen19712-11-07, 07:56 PM | So last session, the party was traveling through a zone where the animals are mutated by magic, and I rolled up that they encountered a den of fire-breathing (per the monstrous beast template from Savage Species) pumas. Well, they killed the mother, and the party healer decided that she wanted to tame the cubs (of which there were three). This leadsme to my question: I know that they're magical beasts, and so she takes a -4 penalty on Handle Animal, but what DC should I set for her attempt to rear them? The book says 15 + HD, but currently, they've only 1 HD, being cubs and all. Should I use their adult HD, or their current HD? Also, how often should she make checks, since we can't just say, "Okay, a week's past, they're tame now." Also, what should happen when either 1) She fails, or 2) the party is attacked and the cubs get scared? Thanks in advance for any responses! |

The first check is DC 20 (15+1 HD+4 for being magical beasts), with each successive one increasing by +1. I'd have her make the skill checks for each cub seperately. This actually reflects reality pretty closely; many wild animals are easy to tame when they are young, but rapidly become more feral and aggressive as they get older. This is especially true of mammals. |
