These bright red and pink birds stand over 4 feet tall and have wingspans of about 5 feet. They feed on shellfish and algae using their beaks as specialized filters. The statistics presented here describe the larger Greater Flamingo or Carribean Flamingo.

Skills: A flamingo takes a -4 racial penalty to Hide checks due to its colourful plumage.

A flamingo uses its Dexterity modifier instead of its Strength modifier for Swim checks.

Revision History: Changed Str from 1 to 5.
Changed CR from 1/2 to 1/6.

I think 1 strength is WAY to low, I'm actually having a hard time thinking of the animals that have but 1 str... But maybe this is just becuase I would like to see a tribe of barbaric halflings riding flamingos, vicsous bloodthirsty, feral flamingos ;)

I sort of agree, I would probably peg the strength in the 3-4 range.

Wow, you're right.

I'm bumping the Strength up to 5 (-3) instead of 1. Str 1 was way too low; I'm not sure what I was thinking!

However, in order to fly and still carry a halfling, it'd need approximately 10 Strength. Sorry.

(It can hold one right now as a Medium load, though, if the Halfling is a lighter one).

Even with the Feral Template (Str +4) , it'll still be barely unable to fly with a Halfling male (it could with a female halfling weighing 30 lbs or less).

I can't justify a flamingo having 6 Str, either. You'll either have to slap on another template, or give them an Elite Array :)

CR 1/2 is too high; that's the CR of an orc.

Yeah, I guess a Flamingo is hardly a fight against two ECL 1 characters.

Even one character could probably take one on without much difficulty in the least, considering. Should I make the CR 1/4 or 1/8 ? Could a single Level 1 character beat up two Flamingos without using up more than 30%ish of its resources?

Well, one hit will kill a flamingo, and it deals 1 damage per hit. It has AC 12, so, the fighter should be ableto take down 1 per round, as should the rogue and cleric; the wizard can whack one with a Lesser Orb. Each time the flamingo hits, it requires a Cure Minor Wounds; an average 4 hits requires a CLW.

I say CR 1/6.

I wouldn't think a regular old run-of-the-mill flamingo would be strong enough to carry a halfling... but a DIRE flamingo, now there's a war mount!

One word:

WEREFLAMINGO!!

That's actually the entire reason I created this creature :) That, or an anthro flamingo.

(Were-flamingo is possible; they do hunt prey, shellfish, so technically they're able to be chosen, just like were-octopuses and were-porpoises, which are just silly.)
