Flashy familiar [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-06-06, 02:28 PM I was looking for a familliar for a halfling wizard and specifically for a flashy one. Something that's colorful, exciting and/or funny.

My initial thought was a hummingbird but google didn't help me to find out about what it does or its stats. And then I thought that you might have some nice ideas as well.

Can you help me?

01-06-06, 04:24 PM Take anything, then use the Elemental Familiar spell on it (its in the archives on the main site somewhere). Basically, you cast the spell on your familiar, and it turns into an elemental of your choice (earth, fire, air, or water). Still has the same shape as the original, same bonuses and special abilities, only now its made of earth/stone, fire, air, or water.

Got a sorceress that is going to have an Air Elemental Tressym with this spell.

Too be honest, i've never actually seen a printed representation of a parrot familiar. A player in one of my games i believe used a Ravens stats, and a +3 to Diplomacy skill. Like the raven the parrot could speak one language. Hehe and pee off quite a few NPC's with the classic, "SQWAUCK!" and repeat nonsencical portion of sentence .

01-07-06, 01:36 AM If possible, take Improved Familiar and get yourself a corrolax (Monster Manual II). It's sort of like a parrot that can use color spray at will. You can't get much flashier than that!

monkey, boar, magmin, pixie ( you'll need improve familiar tho)

phase wasp, moonrat (MM II)

and a shocker lizard with augment familiar spell (complete arcane) would make a cool guardian

Parrot Familiar would be in Stormwrack.

An Eyeball Beholderkin would be good for the paranoid Wizard who always wants someone to watch his back.

01-07-06, 10:30 AM If you're high enough level and willing to get the Improved Familiar feat, why not take an Imp? They can polymorph into all the flashy things you want. Of course, there's the whole "Evil" problem unless your character is also evil... but Imps are LE, and would probably fully obey their master (though somewhat grudgingly) regardless of alignment. And hey, there's always room for some fun RP when your familiar wants to cause all manner of trouble but you won't let him...

Sadly, there is. You need to be at most one step away from the familiar... so if the Halfling wizard in question is LN, LE, or NE, he can take it. And I don't think he's any of those alignments...

Well, there's always the Quasit, who can by taken freely by CN, CE, or NE masters. And the Pixie, who can be taken by LG, NG, CG, or TN characters. That's all the alignments covered, yay.
