| Dracomortis07-09-06, 04:33 PM | Flayed One A flayed one is created from the remains of a victim slain by a flaywind. They bear a semblance to their former selves, but all of the skin is stripped from their bodies, exposing the muscle tissue and bone beneath. Many flayed ones harbor an undying hatred for the living, having been robbed of their own life unexpectedly. Others, however, see their existence as punishment for some wrongdoing, and seek to atone for their sins, real or imagined. Sample Flayed One This hellish creature resembles something out of a nightmare. Every muscle in its draconic body is drawn taught as it prepares to attack. This example of a flayed one uses a young black dragon as the base creature. Flayed One Young Black Dragon Medium Undead Hit Dice: 10d12+20 (85 hp) Initiative: +4 Speed: 60 ft. Anyone within 60 feet of a flayed one must succeed on a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 flayed one’s racial Hit Dice + flayed one’s Cha modifier) or become shaken for 4d6 rounds. A creature that succeeds on the saving throw is immune to the flayed one’s frightful presence for 24 hours. Abilities: As an undead creature, a flayed one has no Constitution score. Skills: A flayed one has a +8 racial bonus on Intimidate checks. Environment: Warm deserts. Organization: Solitary, pair, or flaying (3-6) Challenge Rating: Same as the base creature +1. | thasis07-09-06, 06:18 PM | This here reminds me of the Flayed Ones from the Necrons (Warhammer 40k). Very spiffy :D |
| Dracomortis07-09-06, 07:55 PM | Hmmm not too familiar with Warhammer, but I guess that's cool. If anyone reading this can help me with the CR or LA I would really appreciate it, templates aren't my strong point. |
| thasis07-09-06, 09:17 PM | I say you about pegged the CR and LA at the right area. The actual abilities aren't terribly strong. Frightful Presence and a boost to AC isn't enough to warrent a LA past +2 and definitly not a more then +1 CR boost. I'd say quite fine. |
| Dracomortis07-10-06, 11:59 AM | Alright thanks. I figured the biggest thing this template had going for it was the undead type and frightful presence (since just about everything but a human is actually going to lose some AC). I'm going to see if my DM will let me play one of these so I can play test it. |
