Born in the depths of hell itself, formed from the bones a race of devils long forgotten, the vile Flesh Renders serve the dukes of hell and their servants. No one knows who first discovered the secret to making these undead horrors, but word of their creation has leaked, either accidentally or otherwise, from hell so that certain mortals now also know how to make them. Because few that are not arch-Devils know how to make them it is rare to encounter Flesh Renders with out some sort of devil nearby.

Though they are created to be servants Flesh Renders are not unintelligent like Skeletons and zombies are, they retain their fiendish intelligence and a good deal of their fiendish immunities and toughness. Arch-Devils create them for use as guards or laborers.

A Flesh Render looks like a humanoid skeleton, nearly twelve feet tall, covered with burs and bony spikes. Their bones are a deep murky gray color, and their talons and eye sockets are deepest black. Flesh Renders speak Infernal with a low raspy voice.

COMBAT

Flesh Renders revel in combat, using it as an excuse to vent their undying frustration at being locked in the form of an undead monstrosity. They follow orders explicitly and use a high degree of teamwork in combat. They try to claw as many foes as possible, so as to spread their tainted touch, even if those foes survive the combat.

Diseased Touch (Su): Any creature hit by the Flesh Renders claws must make a fortitude save (DC 14) or be affected by the disease known as devil chills (See DMG page 75; Incubation period 1d4 days, Damage 1d4 strength, three successful saves to end).

Gaze of Doom (Su): 30ft., Will save (DC 18) or be Shaken (-2 moral penalty to attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws) for 1d6 minutes.

Turn resistance (Ex): A Flesh Render is treated as a 12 HD undead for purposes of Turn, Rebuke, Command, and Bolster attempts

Undead Traits: Immune to mind-influencing effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, death effects, necromantic effects, disease and any effect that requires a Fortitude save that doesn’t also effect objects. Not subject to critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, energy drain, or death from massive damage. Flash Render’s have darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

*Skills: Due to their coloration Flesh Renders gain a +4 circumstance bonus to Hide checks in areas of shadow or darkness, this is not included in the calculations above.

Hmm....so it's called a flesh render but it doesn't have rend as a special attack? I think you should either give it rend or change the name. It would be really awesome if it was a giant skeletal gray render.

naw... I like the name as is... and think the abilities are fine... Rend is a discriptive word as well as a game term.

Well whatever you want, but a skeletal gray render with those abilities would be even more awesome.

a skeletal grey render would be a cool monster... why don't you make one and post it to the boards? I'd love to see it.

Advancement: ---------------

The bone render is an evil abomination forged from the ghastly experiments of a deranged cleric. The spell caster was working on infernal experiments that could allow him to create undead by "birthing" them from a larger more powerful creature. Needing an appropriate host, the cleric chose the gray render for its large size, awesome strength, and protective disposition. Not only would he use the beast to birth his undead army, but it would also be used as a body guard. The following day, the cleric hired a ranger to capture a young gray render in the wild so he could further his wretched plan. The ranger returned a month later with a caged gray render cub, and thus the cleric began his horrible experiments on the young animal.

Three years later, the experiments were complete and the cleric successfully transformed the once proud gray render into a monstrous hulking zombie. The cleric gave the bone render the ability to create undead by killing other creatures with a powerful gout of fetid green fog, which the beast could breathe forth from its mouth. It seemed that the cleric's experiments were all going according to plan until one day, for reasons unknown to the cleric, the undead creatures created by his "host" would not obey his commands. Having grown frustrated with the creatures being disobedient, the cleric lost his temper and doused the zombies with a flammable liquid and caught them on fire. The bone render had developed an almost maternal bond with the undead creatures it had breathed "life" into and this little human burned them away. The bone render, terribly enraged by its master's actions, seized the little man by the throat before he could react, and violently wrenched his head off.

The bone render resembles a normal gray render except for its fleshless hands and face, jutting elbow spikes, blackish skin, and green glowing eyes. After having killed its original master, the bone render escaped to wild to create more zombie creatures for it to take care of.

Combat: The bone render fearlessly protects the skeletons and zombies it creates as if they were its children. It prefers to use its bony claws to flay its enemies flesh off. The zombies and skeletons created by the bone render defend it as if it were a cleric that cast "control undead", although the bone render cannot actually control them, they just follow it around and attack any creature that ventures by unless it is undead.

Breath Weapon(Su): Twice per day, the bone render can breathe a noxious green cloud of flesh eating fog (treat as 'cone'). It deals 10d8 points of damage (DC 20 to halve the damage) and the bone render can use it one more time that day in 1d4 rounds. Any living creature killed by the bone render's breath weapon becomes a zombie or skeleton in 1d8 rounds. The new zombie/skeleton does nothing but protect and defend the bone render to the death. Creatures transformed into undead by the bone render can only be transformed back to their original forms with a successful "wish" spell.

Improved Grab(Ex): To use this ability the bone render must hit an opponent of large size or smaller with its bite attack.

Rend(Ex): Whenever the bone render hits an opponent with both claws, it latches onto the flesh and tears its victim apart for an additional 2d8+6 points of damage.

Immunities(Ex): The bone render is immune to all turn, command, and rebuke undead effects. It is also immune to damage from poisons and cold and takes only half damage from electricity.

I hope you like it, I've never made an undead before. I think some of the stats may be off, and I had no idea how many feats to give it.

it looks pretty good...

as for number of feats, it depends on if you are using 3.0 or 3.5

in 3.0 a large undead creature gets 1 + int bonus + 1 per 4 HD above 2 for a tottal of 5 in the case of the bone render here.

by 3.5 rules it would get 1 for its 1st HD, and then one for every 3 HD it has (just like a character does) for a tottal of 7 feats for your creature.

your attack bonus should be bite +16 melee, 2 claws +10 melee

will save should be +13

skill points are calculated as either (3.0) (3x intelligence score)+(2xEHD... which in yor case is 18) for a total of 44 skill points

or (3.5) (4 x int modifier) x (HD+3) (regardless of the out come of the calculation all creatures recieve a minimum of 4 skill points +1 sill point per HD) which would givr your creature a total of 23 skill points.

all in all I think it is a great creature, good job :)
