I have always hated the fact that the MM doesn`t give a good description as to the flind`s background or origins. It says they are the cousins of gnolls, but I always keep wondering: In what way? Are they some sort of breed with some other race? Are they a complete other race?(which I doubt, since their name in the MM is "Gnoll, Flind") Are they just stronger? If anyone has any ideas or KNOWS about the origins of Flinds, and how much different(other than stats) they are from gnolls, I would greatly appreciate it.

They have also been described as being leonine in appearance as opposed to the Gnolls' hyena-like appearance, as well as having a more noble and civilised demeanor.

I prefer the 3.5 e take on the flind to what was shown in 2e, namely that a flind is a gnoll that is six inches to a foot shorter, but just as big, in the same way a drawf is shorter than a human but as just as big. They also are not so lacking on the brains department, and gnolls have a natural inclination to treat flinds as their betters.
