| moosekickedmysisterstoof03-26-04, 02:59 PM | If any of you have been watchin' Adult Swim lately then you'll know what I'm talkin' about. Here's the stats for the contenders: Flying Crocodile (Augmented Animal) Huge Animal Hit Dice: 7d8+28 (59 hp) Initiative: +3 Speed: 20 ft. (4 squares), swim 30 ft, fly 90 ft (good) Armor Class: 18 (–2 size, +3 Dex, +7 natural), touch 11, flat-footed 15 Base Attack/Grapple: +5/+21 Attack: Bite +11 melee (2d8+12) or tail slap +11 melee (1d12+12) Full Attack: Bite +11 melee (2d8+12) and 2 claws +7 melee (1d6+6); or tail slap +11 melee (1d12+12) Space/Reach: 15 ft./10 ft. Special Attacks: Improved grab, Rake Special Qualities: Hold breath, low-light vision Saves: Fort +9, Ref +8, Will +3 Abilities: Str 27, Dex 16, Con 19, Int 1, Wis 12, Cha 2 Skills: Hide +1*, Listen +5, Spot +5, Swim +16 Feats: Alertness, Endurance, Skill Focus (Hide), MultiAttack(Bonus) Environment: Warm marshes Organization: Solitary Challenge Rating: 5 Advancement: 8–14 HD (Huge) Level Adjustment: — The creature resembles an ordinary crocodile but with the addition of a pair of huge wings. The flying crocodile was created by the gods to do battle with the flying shark. Fighting is its only purpose. Combat: The flying crocodile prefers to fly over its enemy and use its sharp claws to tear its enemy open. Once it wounds its prey, it closes in to grab its enemy with its vice-like jaws. It usually saves its tailslap attack for any enemies foolish enough to attack it from the rear. Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a crocodile must hit with its bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, the crocodile establishes a hold on the opponent with its mouth and then attempts to tear at its opponent with its raking hind feet. Rake (Ex): When flying over an opponent (or after grabbing a foe with its mouth) the crocodile can make two rake attacks with its back feet (+7 melee, damage 1d6+3). Hold Breath (Ex): A crocodile can hold its breath for a number of rounds equal to 4 x its Constitution score before it risks drowning. Skills: A crocodile has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. It can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line. *A crocodile gains a +4 racial bonus on Hide checks when in the water. Further, a crocodile can lie in the water with only its eyes and nostrils showing, gaining a +10 cover bonus on Hide checks. Flying Shark (Augmented Animal) Huge Animal (Aquatic) HD: 10d8+20 (65 hp) Initiative: +3 Speed: Swim 60 ft. (12 squares), fly 120 feet (good) AC: 16 (–2 size, +3 Dex, +5 natural), touch 11, flat-footed 13 Base Attack/Grapple: +7/+20 Attack: Bite +10 melee (2d8+7) Full Attack: Bite +10 melee (2d8+7) Space/Reach: 15 ft./10 ft. Special Attacks: Improved Grab, Wounding Bite Special Qualities: Blindsense, keen scent Saves: Fort +11, Ref +10, Will +4 Abilities: Str 21, Dex 16, Con 15, Int 1, Wis 12, Cha 2 Skills: Listen +10, Spot +10, Swim +13 Feats: Alertness, Great Fortitude, Improved Initiative, Iron Will, Flyby Attack (Bonus) Environment: Cold aquatic Organization: Solitary Challenge Rating: 5 Advancement: 11–17 HD (Huge) Level Adjustment: — This creature resembles a gigantic shark, but it seems to be equipped with a jetpack and breathing apparatus. The flying shark was created by the gods to do battle with the flying crocodile. Fighting is its only purpose. Combat: The flying shark wastes no time in combat. It charges in at first sight of its foe and does all it can to tear its enemy to pieces. Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a shark must hit with its bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, the shark establishes a hold on the opponent with its mouth. Wounding Bite (Ex): The shark's razor-sharp teeth slice through flesh with ease. Its bite naturally threatens a critical hit on a 19-20 and inflicts triple damage on a successful critical hit. In addition, any creature that gets critically hit with the shark's bite attack takes 1 point of constitution damage from the vicious wound. Blindsense (Ex): A shark can locate creatures underwater within a 30-foot radius. This ability works only when the shark is underwater. Keen Scent (Ex): A shark can notice creatures by scent in a 180-foot radius and detect blood in the water at ranges of up to a mile. Skills: A shark has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. It can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line. |
| d_nychus03-26-04, 04:09 PM | Nice work there. I would email that to the Adult Swim guys, I think they would get a kick out of it. My money is on the crocodile. Jaws was a lame movie, but man, Lake Placid ruled. See? I use science to support my theory. |
| Aeolius03-26-04, 04:13 PM | gee, when I see "flying shark", I think of: http://www.lobi.com/gallery/bpaa/images/b_picgal.jpg :D |
| d_nychus03-26-04, 06:26 PM | The shark on Adult Swim has a jet pack. Makes less sense that way. :D |
| Wickerbull03-26-04, 09:09 PM | Wow, I've been waiting for this thread to come into existance for awhile. Well, it looks like the croc wins, judging by the stats. More attacks during a Full Attack, better AC, and only 6 less HP than the shark. Not judging by the stats, the croc should win anyway, just because they're cooler. "Look at me, I possess all modes of movement! And I can breathe air(without a mask)!" Yeah, if I were the croc, I'd be totally rubbing my sheer superiority in the face of the shark, for all to see. Humiliation is always great for starting a melee to the death. |
| m0003-26-04, 09:37 PM | Let's examine the facts, scientifically: Crocodile: dung used by ancient Egyptians as a prophylactic. Shark: Resistant to cancer. I think the winner is obvious. Go shark. |
| R.M.G.C.L.F.03-26-04, 09:43 PM | And considering there's a lot more UV rays in the upper atmosphere, cancer will be a factor. Also the shark is much more designed for arial combat, heck most modern jet fighters are modeled after its sleek, aerodynamic build. |
| God of Slivers03-26-04, 10:13 PM | GO SHARK!!! |

Heck, one (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/images/f-20-DF-ST-86-12154.jpg) was even NAMED after it. :D |
| Edymnion03-26-04, 10:59 PM | You guys do realize this whole thing was in reaction to the Shark vs. Crocodile that the Discovery Channel did, right? And that the Shark won? Given that, I'm still going to say the the croc wins. You've got a paragon shark with a jetpack verses an anthropomorphic winged crocodile. Croc has hands, and can use weapons. And it can breath air. You know, that whole breathing thing is a problem in combat. |

| Incenjucar03-26-04, 11:10 PM | I think they gave the shark hands, as well. Thing is, the croc has a much more battle-ready tail (Big giant knobby skin vs. sand paper skin.. hmn...), and doesn't rely on machinery. The croc doesn't need to slaughter the shark, just knock off its breathing apparatus or bust its jet pack. Besides, a great white sucks compared to a mako. Mako's have vorpal tails for crying out loud. |
| m0003-27-04, 12:04 AM | In a straight up battle, the croc is at a clear advantage. But a straight up battle is blatantly unfair to the shark; you gotta let a shark use his maneuverability and cunning if you expect to have a fair fight. With his keen scent, stun and flyby attack, combined with his higher movement rate, all the shark needs is some decent cloudcover and the croc is toast. Face it crocophiles, the shark is supreme. |
| moosekickedmysisterstoof03-27-04, 12:56 PM | I took away the shark's headbutt attack, but I gave it Wounding bite. Maybe that should even the odds. |
