| Th_Ar_Al09-01-06, 08:08 PM | Hi I creating a "School for Aerial Knigths" and I need a list of possible flying mounts. I know that from the Monster manual: Giant Eagle and Owl Pegasus (I think I will create a minor and less powerfull version) Hipogriff Wyvern anyway I need more, only flying creatures or bird-related creatures. Can anyone help me? I prefer core but other creatures are also welcome. |
| Viashino_wizard09-02-06, 12:33 AM | There's also the Spider-Eater, and if you're large enough, you could work out the carrying capacity for a Roc. |
| The Vorpal Tribble09-02-06, 12:58 AM | Young dragons are always a possibility. Not sure about a sphinx, it'd have to be a very friendly one. Also: Dire Vulture (Sandstorm) Giant Raven (Frostburn) Phoera (MM III) |
| Insane Pixie09-02-06, 01:58 AM | I'm a huge fan of the canisphinx, in any situation. Found in Sandstorm as well. |
| Th_Ar_Al09-02-06, 02:07 AM | Can you use a Roc as a mount if you are to much smaller? how about a pterodactyl or something similar? The sugestions are good, I liked the Giant Raven better, it fits with the school theme. |
| Insane Pixie09-02-06, 02:25 AM | Can you use a Roc as a mount if you are to much smaller? There's no size restrictions on mounts besides the "must be at least one size smaller" rule. how about a pterodactyl or something similar? The best one is statted in Serpent Kingdoms. You can also find the Dire Hawk in the MMII. Medium-size mount, so it'd work for Halflings and the like. |
| Slagger the Chuul09-02-06, 09:53 AM | From the Monster Manual, there's the giant wasp and the dire bat (whose statistics can also serve as a pterodactyl, if you're in a hurry). If you've got the Arms and Equipment Guide (from the latter part of 3.0 rules), there's the axebeak, giant dragonfly, and giant firefly (the Soarwhale is too big to be a good mount for most aerial knights). Since none of them have any special abilities, they can be run almost directly from the book, even under 3.5 rules. |
| Melpomene09-02-06, 02:40 PM | There's a dire eagle (Races of the Wild, IIRC) Asperi (MMII) and Stone Flier (Underdark) Also, you can add the 'winged' template (SS) to a good many animals. |
| Vanigo09-02-06, 03:12 PM | You seem to have forgotten about the griffon. A yrthak could work for a Large rider looking for a powerful mount. There's half-dragon, half-celesital, or half-fiend versions of most non-flying mounts. There are manticores, but, like yrthaks, they're kinda powerful for most use. Oh, and don't forget nightmares, if you don't mind evil sorts. |

| Viashino_wizard09-02-06, 11:44 PM | THere's also the Dragonne. They're even slightly intelligent. And, if you have MMII, there's the Desmodu bats. I think there's a Dire Hawk too. |
| the_fenris_wolf09-03-06, 12:03 AM | Gryphons arnt evil , im playing a campaign right now with a cryphon mount, and i am lawful good, and it doesnt interfere with my gaming They might be aggresive and proud but difinitely not evil. cheers |
| Darth Sephiroth09-03-06, 12:16 AM | I've been working on stats for a lesser dragon that serves as a mount for a group of aerial warriors. They're similar to a Wyvern except they have animal level intelligence and develop a bond with their rider. |

| Viashino_wizard09-03-06, 01:20 AM | Hey, a wyvern. THere;s a thought. |
| Th_Ar_Al09-03-06, 09:47 PM | I'm pretty sure he was talking about nightmares. Exactly. I looking more for creatures with wings anyway. |
