Mattimeo78368 05-01-07, 05:14 PM	Hell all, sorry for posting this but I couldn't quite find the search option on this forum =o/ Pretty much I just need some help with finding a nest of flying mounts for my players, I want to do something around cr 1-5 that would be less common than a hippogriff, griffin, Pegasus etc. I'm having trouble just sifting through all the monsters to find mounts. They are going to be sent to the nest with a couple animal handlers to train them as war mounts for a city that is near war. They need them to counter the 500 griffin riders that they have. Setting is forgotten realms, so anything from there would be fine, thanks in advance!
Return of the Flumph 05-01-07, 05:19 PM	Spider Eaters from the MM are possibly the most badass CR 5 creature in the manual. Wyverns are a little high in the CR range (CR 7), but they are tamable and eat hyppogriffs for breakfast, making them a good choice for this situation. Metallic dragons might also be willing to serve as mounts in exchange for a large cut of the spoils. Unfortunately, by the time they grow big enough to serve as a mount for a Medium creature their CR will be in the 10-11 range.

The spider eater doesn't really appeal, I doubt very many of the citizens would be heartened by they're corp of flying bug men heh ^_^ anything else from some of the other monster manuals, frostburn, sandstorm, monsters of faerun, anything else?
