Ok folks, got a question for the knowledge-mongers out three!

Charcacters on foot can take a single, doube, or run move on their turn (mooving 1x, 2x, or 4x their speed, respectively).

What sort of movements can a flying creature take? Can anyone quote rules for me detailing the limits of their movement? I know they can take a double move, but is there an equivilent of a "run" for flying creatures?

Thanks!

As far as I know, flying creatures can move in a straight line at quad normal speed exactly as if they were running. The only exception to this would be for non-living flyers (such as Shadows), since only living creatures can use the run action.

Actually, no, all creatures can "run" unless they say otherwise. The bulk of Constructs and most undead actually can run without fear of ever becoming fatigued, which is annoying for most player. Fortunately, I am a DM. ^_^

The rules are a little sticky on that point, as the folks at Wizards keep contradicting themselves there. So just Rule Zero it.

You can use the run action with any of your natural movement modes unless stated otherwise. A character under the effect of a fly spell cannot use the run action because flight is magically granted and not a natural method of propulsion.

Also, 3.5 has clerified that point, Ogre, undead (et al) can run forever.

I stand corrected. Or, more accurately since I'm at my computer, I sit corrected.:D
