| DragonMage(xxx)>>>>>11-13-05, 01:40 AM | when the pixie flies does it make any noise? If it does can you increase the DC listen with move silently? |
| Benny BBQ11-13-05, 01:59 PM | Well, I ain't never seen a pixie myself... ;) ... But judging from their size (small creatures), and comparing them with real-world creatures of similar size (and flying mode -- gossamer wings), I'd say: they either make one hell of a racket! (think about a dog-sized hummingbird...), or almost none (think about a butterfly... I don't think that bigger butterflies would make much more noise...). This is essentially a DM's call. Perhaps could we consider them making a soft tingling sound when they fly (like delicate chimes), with all sorts of smooth dusty sparks about them :) . Hell! I'd go with them being near silent; they're pranksters after all. They wouldn't want to get caught in the act now would they? 'Hope this helped. Peace! |
| caeruleus11-13-05, 02:04 PM | Hell! I'd go with them being near silent; they're pranksters after all. They wouldn't want to get caught in the act now would they? Exactly my thoughts. I played a pixie once (one of the best PCs I've ever played... I loved the personality I developed for him so much, I regularly use him as an NPC when I DM), and this very issue came up. Some said he's make as much noise as a fly of his size, while I argued that he'd be more like a butterfly (sure, I may have been biased, but that is how I imagine pixies). The DM decided they don't make noise, and everyone was okay with that decision. Well, they make some noise, but no more on average than a person walking. |
| savant_warlord1311-13-05, 07:53 PM | the rapidly beating wings would make considerable sound |
| The Simbul11-22-05, 12:46 AM | They make no more or less noise when moving (flight or otherwise) than any other creature. |
| mythSSK11-22-05, 03:09 AM | They make no more or less noise when moving (flight or otherwise) than any other creature. This is correct by the RAW. |
