| Negeta12-04-04, 04:57 AM | I've got two questions. One sort of deals with this feat, but I feel the major question deals with monsters, so I'll put the topic here. I've got a medusa with the leadership feat. Picking a cohort for her won't be that hard at all. However, most followers she'd accept have too have have ECLs. She has a leadership score of 21, so she'll be getting plenty of followers. What kind of creatures would be good and legal for a medusa? She prefers scaled creatures, such as yuan-ti (probable cohort). I'd like her to have snakes as followers, but it's probably no legal to have creatures of such low intelligence be followes. The minor question is if it would be legal to have snakes as followers. I've considered the option of kobolds, but I don't feel they would suit the medusa. Lizardfolk probably wouldn't fit either, plus they have ECLs of 3. I'm not sure if there are other scaled creatures that would fit as followers. Could anyone help me out with ideas? The medusa prefers snakes, followed by other reptiles. She also has a fondness of drow (she likes their style, although they are a little too chaotic for her tastes). Thanks for any help you can give. |

Also bear in mind the petrification ability of the medusa and how the cohort will contend with it. Perhaps usage of the narrowed gaze feat from savage species here? |

I don't really want a snake as a cohort. I only really considered them as followers. I play using a Slayer's Guide to Medusas, which has stated that they basically receive the Narrowed Gaze feat for feat. It didn't say it quite like that, but it mentioned that medusas can dim their gaze. It also had two medusa-only prestige classes. And as I said, the cohort would really be no trouble at all. Fiendish snakes could be likely for followers (INT: 3) That sounds decent. I suppose an Int of 3 may be high enough for the snakes to be attracted to the power of the medusa. How would I determine CR to ECL for the level limit on followers? Should I just go by HD? That would give me Fiendish vipers of medium size. |
| Elric Of Melnibone12-04-04, 04:35 PM | Legend has it that medusa was cursed..... that she had been made so ugly that she was would turn you to stone if you looked at her. It seem to me that the spawn of medusa would only have blind followers.....Grimlocks, and undead come to mind. Even with narrowed gaze medusa isn't someone you want to hang out with at starbucks, cause she is (sing this part) U-G-L-Y she aint got no alibi she's ugly. |

Even with narrowed gaze medusa isn't someone you want to hang out with at starbucks, cause she is (sing this part) U-G-L-Y she aint got no alibi she's ugly. Yeah, the Greek Medusa was ugly. But before that, Medusa was a goddess known as Anath, I believe. She was a beautiful woman with feathered, angel-like wings that was also covered in snakes. She was meant as a female empowerment goddess. When the Greeks got a hold of her, the goddess that was once meant for female strength became a cursed creature. Her petrifying gaze comes from the fact that it was once believed that a menstrating woman could turn a man to stone with her gaze. But that's all legends, anyhow. The D&D medusa is much different... mostly, becauses Medusa became a race of snake-haired creatures with supernatural gazes. And my medusa isn't all that ugly. Here's a pic: http://www.angelfire.com/sc/Paleon76/medusa01.jpg ((Angelfire page, so cut and paste link.)) Thus, I don't feel she needs to surround herself with blind creatures. My medusa (her name's Medha) is a powerful woman and well respected to those on her good side. She has no like of undead, and dislikes what she finds ugly, such as a grimlock. It's a decent idea having followers immune to her gaze, but they'd go against her character. What I'd really like to find is reptilian creatures that are weak enough to be ECL 1. I think I know what I'd like for followers ECL 2 and up, since one of the lizardfolk in the MM3 I like and is weak enough. Small vipers have 1 HD, but I don't think they're smart enough to see a medusa as a leader. Making they fiendish gives them a +2 LA, which may not matter as much since they'd never advance for the higher benefits to matter. I considered kobolds, but they are somewhat overdone. It's nice that they're weak enough, but does anyone know anything else? Help would be greatly appreciated. |
| Negeta12-07-04, 12:36 AM | Shameless bump. :bump: With the fact that the medusa will soon have a stronghold and I consider her to have a special power, she's going to end up with over 100 1st followers. I've worked out the 2nd level (Poison Dusk Lizardfolk from MM3) and up (Other lizardfolk and Felldrakes from MM2). I've considered, and decided to have several kobolds. I'll probably have 20-25 fighter kobolds and 20-25 sorceror kobolds. I've also thought that maybe not all 1st level need be reptilian, since I may not be able to just use snakes. Would Warforged be plausible followers? I've also consider a few LE Wild Elves. Does that make sense, either? If those don't work, would it be acceptable for me to use 1HD vipers as followers? They may not be followers in the main meaning of the word, but they could be drawn towards the medusa's love and respect of snakes. In her area, they'd be well fed and protected from many predators. The problem is that they'd still only have animal intelligence. Does this sound decent? Fifty vipers is much easier then fifty kobolds, I think. |
| triangol441212-07-04, 06:57 PM | medusa would use cocatrice as followers (chickens that can petrify) although they are cr 3 |
