Thats what prompted me to dig them out. But celestial template is probably good enougth. Just seems they deserve better :)

Its a reference to the stylistic lions that the Chinese used to decorate their palaces. The artists had never seen a lion and so sculpted their foo-lions based only a third-hand description. I personally think they did a good job and they are quite stylish :)

I dunno, I find the artist rendition quite silly, somehow, I think they are better off staying as stone sculptures...:P

10-13-06, 11:28 PM The only reference to the Foo Lion in Fiendish Codex is the picture of it and a few Good-aligned Fey-like creatures defending one of the layers from Evil.

10-13-06, 11:43 PM For what it's worth, "Foo creatures" (specifically Foo Lions and Foo Dogs) appear in the 2e Planescape Monstrous Compendium I. They might have appeared in 1st edition, but I'm only aware of the 2e source. So if you're looking for the flavor and fluff, that's the best bet on them, though the stats will need to be adjusted to 3.x (or just use the celestial template on the animal, and likely apply some version of the petitioner template since they're a specialized form of petitioner).

ENWorld's Creature catalog has a 3.0 'foo' template here (http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/template/foo_creature.htm); there's very little that would need to be changed to update it to 3.5 ...
