Very similar names when written, and occasionally causes confusion. Indeed. Fomorians come from celtic myths, they were the misshapen giants driven away by the Tuatha de Danaan. Their name knows a long list of variants (formorian, formoirian, fomori, formoir, etc.). The Formians were made for D&D and have no mythical existence at all. The name is derived from the Latin formica which means "ant."
