| moosekickedmysisterstoof12-07-05, 04:57 PM | I'm planning a campaign in which my players will encounter a powerful illithid sorceror. This isn't a HUGE deal or anything, but I was just wondering what I should do about a familiar. I know that mindflayers hate virtually everyone and everything, so I think that most mindflayer sorcerors probably would go without a familiar. On the other hand, taking on a familiar would be beneficial to the completely self-serving illithid (especially since they have somewhat poor senses, save for sense over their own body and their darkvision). So, if my illithid SHOULD take on a familiar, what should he (and I use the term "he" loosely) have? I would love to hear your feed-back. :D - Johnny |

It's the Eyeball, although I couldn't tell you what book it's in. If he's powerful enough you could go with an Intellect Devourer. Pseudonatural creatures sort of work, but that may be a bit too much. Or you could apply the Half-Illithid template, even though it normally only applies to humanoids. An imp wouldn't be too far afield. Ooh, I've got it: a tiny octopus with the Air Elemental template so it can fly! Ooh, I like it. |
