| thasis03-16-05, 12:03 AM | Well I jus got the Libris Mortis book a couple of months ago right. Awsome book. I wanted to test some of the stuff in it. So when my friend came over and asked to play D&D we used his old character from a game we played a couple of weeks ago. We wanted to continue the adventure. So we wipped out his character and dusted of the character sheet. So I send him to take out a Necromancer. He's being payed alot of cash so he takes the job to capture the necromancer. The employer is actualy an old character named Thasis I made. He's a pit fiend. Anyways so he goes to take out the Necromancer. So he heads to his little cult place. He takes out some random patrolling undead and then gets to the temple gates. There's to gaurds. He trys lieing to them to get in. Well they don't belive his lie and they attack. He kills them and find out there modified undead. So he opens the gate and goes into the temple. He see's a bunch of priests. So he goes in kills the priests. The cleric then sends out his ultimate weapon. An Evolved Wraith (from the Libris Mortis). So he's 1 lv5 character taking on a CR6. I didn't think he could take it. Well he couldn't. He gets a bunch of his con drained and he runs. Well he has some cure serious wounds potions. So what he does is he chucks one well he's running away. Well he does well. He get a natural 20. No cheating nothing. So I thought what the hell, roll to see if ya get a critical (I know ya probally can't do criticals with potions but whatever. I didn't see any harm in it). So he does the impossible. HE ROLLS ANOTHER NATURAL 20. No cheat nothing. Well we're using the instant death critical thingy varient. So he rolls again and gets a hit. He fricken kills the thing in one hit. I was like amazed. He wasn't supposed to. But whatever. He goes takes out the Necromancer and brings it back the Thasis and gets his reward. The whole point of this story was the 2 natural 20's in a situation when he was going to run. A last attempt to deal some damage killed the thing. I was amazed. |

| Ogre4Hire03-16-05, 12:07 PM | Except by magical effects (spells, plus any crit effect of a magic weapon). |

| Milkman Dan03-16-05, 06:51 PM | From the SRD, in the Undead type description: Not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability drain, or energy drain. Immune to damage to its physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution), as well as to fatigue and exhaustion effects. Pretty self-explanatory. Undeads aren't subject to critical hits. Now, if you had a weapon with the Ghost Strike enchantment from Libris Mortis, you could deliver sneak attacks or critical hits on incorporeal undead creature. However I don't like that idea; it sounds too much like undead suddenly sprouting vital organs. And incorporeal ones at that. But this is only my opinion. |

Yes, and that's why it happens. Undead are immune to critical hits. Period. If you didn't think he could take it, then why did you send him up against it? Also shouldn't he be part of a party or something? There is often a fine line between "funny thing" and "very sloppy DMing". |

I was asking where it was written that you can critical on undead with magical effects. Even a touch or ray attack cannot critical on undead, I understand this and that is why I posted.... Only thing is, undead cannot be criticaled on. |
