It is somewhat larger than most, and seems to remain dim and shadowy even in bright illumination. To imaginative individuals the intricate swirl of wood grains on its doors might almost appear as a scowling face. The possessed wardrobe is product of a sadistic sorcerer whom poured his own cruelty and hunger for power into its making. It was created for the purpose of removing opponents and seeking vengeance. Often it was given as a gift and slowly but surely the family of the household would disapear mysteriously. To this day it continues to prey upon others whom come to live in the abandoned home within which it dwells. Occassionally it will be sold and its legacy continues. Combat: Though the wardrobe can be quick if need be it instead prefers to wait for its victims to approach and snatch them up. It displays an almost intelligent cunning, but is only echoing the vague emotions of its creator and possesses no actual mentality. Fear Aura (Su): A possessed wardrome creates an aura of fear in a 10-foot radius at will. It is otherwise identical with fear from an 7th-level caster (save DC 15). The save DC is Charisma-based. Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, the wardrome must hit with both its slam attacks. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and then 'swallows' its victim. Panic Attack (Su): A victim within the Possessed Wardrobe must make a DC 13 fortitude check every minute or die from fear. Even if the Fortitude save is successful, the subject takes 3d6 points of damage. Those who die within are converted to shadows and the back of the wardrobe opens up a portal to the Plane of Shadow where the victim is automatically drawn. Any clothing upon the victim is hung, and shoes, if any, set side by side with any others. Other equipment is likewise neatly arranged. The save DC is Charisma based. Shadewake (Su): A possessed wardrobe that is destroyed reappears in another locale within 1d6 days of its destruction as it is regenerated within the Plane of Shadow. This can only be halted by a Limited Wish, Wish, Miracle, or any other soul-destroying spell or ability. Swallow Whole (Ex): A possessed wardrobe can try to swallow a grabbed Medium or smaller opponent by making a successful grapple check. It then pulls its victim within and the doors slam shut. It can now use its Panic Attack. To escape the victim must make an opposed strength check or cut/bash its way out by using a light slashing or bludgeoning weapon to deal 20 points of damage to one of its sides (AC 18). Once the victim exits, its rapid healing closes the hole; another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. Every round within the wardrobe deals 1d4 Strength damage to a living creature. A creature reduced to Strength 0 by the wardrobe dies. This is a negative energy effect. The wardrobe will only hold one victim at a time. |
| blackknightatbay05-23-05, 11:57 AM | How deliciously evil Step into the wardrobe, there's a lion, and a witch, a satyr, and a land of wonder behind the doors, just beyond the musty clothing. Kidding! The wardrobe just wants to eat you! Take that Narnia! |
| PrinceAzar05-23-05, 12:49 PM | There was this old sci-fi movie where this bed, it had a symbiotic relationship with this man...well, he brought women to his bed, supposedly to get it on...but the bed had this mouth in it, so the woman was eaten by the bed, to feed it, to sustain it. Could you stat that also? |
| blackknightatbay05-23-05, 02:08 PM | How about statting a demonic oven? You put your hand in it and *wham*, you get an unexpected case of murder! But, on the plus side, anything or anyone cooked inside it would come out tasting like a new york steak or homemade brownies! "Sure, Jim, your mother was killed by the oven, but she turned out good, and she goes great with barbeque sauce." |
| Arden Blackleaf05-23-05, 02:13 PM | Another monster furball? You should create a monstrous manual of your own! |

| Great Cthulhu05-23-05, 03:11 PM | ...animated object infused with the evil of a thousand evils! (That's not supposed to make sense.) Awesome monster, Vorpal Tribble! :D |
| Rechan05-23-05, 04:13 PM | Any clothing upon the victim is hung, and shoes, if any, set side by side with any others. Other equipment is likewise neatly arranged. This is my favorite part. I love this thing. It's especially good in some horror game where you can really play it up, having NPCs disappear, PC sleeping in the room and the fear affect going off, etc. Perhaps the Wardrobe has a mirror, and in the mirror you could see the consumed people in the background. I'd like to see a bed, or various other furniture like this. The only qualm about this is the 'portal to the Plane of Shadow'. I think filling the place with shadows would also be interesting. Also, I think that someone should be able to get out with a light bludgeoning weapon. Essentially bashing their way out with a hammer. Since the wardrobe is made of wood, I imagine it'd bust a hole real quick. |
| PrinceAzar05-23-05, 04:20 PM | Yea, Vorpal, I kid you not...it would make a nice surprise encounter like your armoire of death ;) |
| Mithral Icesilver05-23-05, 06:24 PM | This isn't based on Terry Pratchett's Hogfather by any chance, is it? The shadows, the fear, and the eating all fit. The only bit that doesn't fit is the movement, but then, this was in a tower that tends to affect evil people with their own personal phantasmal killer spell. Lessee, Catseye's was the dark, Peachy's was the Scissor Man, and the wardrobe must've been Chickenwire's, then. |
| The Vorpal Tribble05-23-05, 06:56 PM | This isn't based on Terry Pratchett's Hogfather by any chance, is it? *grins* Yup, was wondering if anyone would catch it. |
| The Vorpal Tribble05-23-05, 07:29 PM | Also, I think that someone should be able to get out with a light bludgeoning weapon. Essentially bashing their way out with a hammer. Good point, adjusted  Btw, if interested... Construction A possessed wardrobe is made from 400 pounds of darkwood. Creating the wardrobe requires a DC 22 Craft (carpentry) check. CL 16th; Animate Object, Cure Moderate Wounds, Fear, Mage Hand, Permanency, Resurrection, Shadow Evocation, Shadow Walk, caster must be at least 16th level; Price 50,000 gp; Cost 23,200 gp + 3,000 XP. |
