I have no clue if this is the right forum.
But here's a question I need answered as soon as possible. (I'm a new D&D player, by the by, so please bear with my ignorance.)

How do you make familiars, say, a common house sparrow- that are not on that little list of official familiars that is provided? The only birds they have are a hawk and a raven, and both of those stand out too much for my character (who is a wizard). xD

(1) There are alternate familiars in Tome and Blood, includuing a screech owl, a sparrow hawk, and a thrush.

(2) Take the stats of something that's close to what you want (for example, raven) and modify them. A raven turned into a sparrow, for example, would probably drop to size Diminutive and have a Strength of 1 and no effective attacks.

(3) Make them up. Most of a familiar's animal stats become fairly unimportant within a few levels.

Thank you for the advice!
Someone told me that on page 200 of the Dungeon Master's Guide, there was something about these other familiars. I'll check it out!

I wrote an answer under D&D General.

Then again, Talisman is so totally more awesome than I am, so don't listen to me.

Think you're really righteous? Think you're pure of heart?
Well, I know I'm a million times as humble as thou art!

You might want to consider taking one of those more
dangerous choices and leaving it behind the scenes, you
could go with eyes and ears and have a flock of sparrows
and such and an "ace in the hole"
