| Game_Addy04-14-05, 07:11 PM | what would be a general rule for the experience?? I have no idea whatsoever, so yeah. Any help would be great. Should it be if you kill it, if you help kill it? If you're within X feet from the kill? anything else? Michael |
| fatal error04-14-05, 08:13 PM | ummm, I have a hard time seeing this as an issue. Generally you have the party of adventurers, they somehow end up killing something, they get exp. Everyone gets the same share for any given fight, regardless of just how much they helped. Now, if you say, were fighting a band of thugs in a city street, random people that were nearby but didn't participate would not be taking from the PC's exp, as they didn't do anything. So I guess the answer would be they have to help fight whatever it is. |
| Kastas04-14-05, 11:28 PM | The PCs get experience if they overcome the threat presented by the monster. In most games, this usually means killing it outright, but in some cases it can also mean talking your way past the monster, sneaking past it, driving it away, or otherwise overcoming the challenge of dealing with it. |
| Game_Addy04-15-05, 12:24 AM | Thank you for the information, but now I need to ask how much experience should be given? and yes, i am a greenie :P Michael |
| Shemeska the Marauder04-15-05, 09:22 AM | Thank you for the information, but now I need to ask how much experience should be given? and yes, i am a greenie :P Michael It's based on the average level of the party of PCs and the CR of the critter they defeat. There's a table in the DMG that covers this, and I'd quote you a page number here but I don't have the book handy. Someone else will be happy to do so I'm sure :) |
| Wayward Son04-15-05, 09:30 AM | There is a chart in the DMG (I don't have it here for a page reference). Look for the CR of the creature on the top of the chart, then scan down to the line for the level of the party. This is the total group experience for that individual monster, so divide it by the number of PCs in the group. The result is the experience award for that single monster for each PC. If you have many identical monsters, just multiply the award by the number of creatures. If the creature has a fractional CR (like the 1/2 CR orc), look up a CR 1 on the chart and multiply by the fraction, then divide for the number of PCs. If you have many monsters of different CRs, look up the award for each monster, divide it by the number of PCs in the party, and record the number on some scratch paper. Rise and repeat for each creature, then add it all up for the total award per PC. If your PCs are of different character levels, look up the award for each level involved, divide by the total number of PCs in the party, and award that result to the PC. This one deserves an example: You have a party of five PCs, one 4th level, two 3rd level, and two first level. They defeat a creature. -You look on the chart and see, for 4th level, the creature is worth 100 xp to the party. Divide that by 5 (the number of PCs), and you get 20 xp. Award 20 xp to the 4th level PC. -Looking at 3rd level, it's worth 150 xp for the party. Again, divide by 5 and award 30 xp to each 3rd level PC. -Finally, for a 1st level party, it is worth 400 xp. Divide by 5 and award 80 xp to each 1st level PC. There you are, XP awards in a nutshell. Look up the chart in the DMG and you are all set. |

| Game_Addy04-15-05, 08:26 PM | thank you very much Michael |
| Sildatorak04-15-05, 11:58 PM | Here is a useful encounter calculator. It really simplifies the figuring of xp. http://www.geocities.com/edymnionii/EPLvsEL.html |
