gaining outsider type & consequences... [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've got this question:
If a character became an outsider (due to level advancment such as 10th level contemplative from DotF) do the outsider traits replace the traits of other class levels to come or do they overlap (I guess they don't stack).

Meaning: If a character with outsider subtype gains a new level (1st level rouge for example) would he gain good fort, reflex, will, hitdice d8, good bab and 8+Int skill points instead of the rouges traits because he is outsider and SRD states that he would gain these traits ?

10-19-05, 07:03 AM You don't gain any benefits other than those listed in the ability desc. You still accrue bab/saves/skill points etc according to what classes you levelled in. Else, everyone would be clamouring to pick the otherwordly regional feat.

However, gaining class levels is ALWAYS that... Class Levels. It dosen't matter what your type is. Any class, be it humanoid, outsider, monsterious humanoid, even abberations or dragons: Anything that gains a Class Level gains the HD, Saves, BAB, etc of the class, regardless of what type they are...

But that does raise an interesting question. I'm not conversant enough with the Paragon and monsterous race progressions to have seen this.... would a type-change like that effect your racial class progression?
