Hi!

Is there any conversion to 3.5 rules for the "new" hengeyokai from Dragon Magazine #266?

Thanks

AFAIK the update in Dragon 318 changed little except for their type and removing the LA... I don't have Dragon 266 but it should be all good with minimal changes.

No, use the lycanthrope, remove the curse, add the spirit subtype an you are good to go. Another way is using the Slaves of the Moon, a book by Sean K. Reynolds, that balances lycanthropes for play without LA, so it should work with hengeyokai.

Hengeyokai are Humanoid (Shapeshifter) without the LA

Hi!

Thanks for all the replies.
I'm aware of the changes in dragon 318, i'm in fact using them.

What i was asking was if someone knew of any conversion for the new "animals" made in dragon 266; dolphin, frog, lynx, panda, etc.

Using the Hengeyokai already present in the OA rulebook as a guideline how should this new Hengeyokai be converted?

Thanks again.

I don't have Dragon 266, so I don't know what stats the new Hengeyokai have, but since the Dragon 318 3.5 update leaves the stats for Hengeyokai hybrid and animal forms the same, what makes you think there should be stat changes to the animals in Dragon 266?

I don't quite follow this one, are you saying that the change in dragon 318 to humanoid (shapechanger) removes the stat adjustment associated to each animal?

Thanks

Well, the problem is that, like lycanthropy, those animals are more powerful than the OA hengeyokai, so you have two options:
a) augment the LA to account for their higher ability scores (or use a modified lycanthrope template), or
b) give the same ability score adjustments (+2 to a physical AS) and change the animal form to be less powerful.

And about the ability adjustment, don't forget they have a -2 to Wisdom!

Also, about Sean K Reynolds book, it is called Curse of the Moon, not Slaves of__, the last one is a book by paradigm press I think.

Also, you can just forget about the other hengeyokai, since they are not as present in mythology as the ones in OA.

The new hengeyokai presented in dragon 266 where perfectly balanced with the "standard" ones.

Is this already done by any official source (or unofficial...)?

I don'y know this book, i'll check it out.

Do so, it is a wonderful book, pure stealable crunch and it isvery cheap! 5 dollars only! There are costlier pizzas than this, and it doesn't contain as much cholesterol ;)

As for your hengeyokai, you may also try rokugan's fortune and winds, they have a variant hengeyokai and tons of cool stealable stuff :D

No. It's very simple. The ability adjustments presented in OA are not changed by Dragon 318.

3.0 and 3.5 Hengeyokai have the same ability adjustments.

The only change was to the type, and removing the level adjustment.
